Surprise! We have reconvened for bargaining ahead of our previously scheduled dates at the end of June. Management is clearly eager to settle fast. But we just see another chance to discuss the vision behind our proposals & share voices from our membership. Stay tuned for more!😈
Once we adjourned, the bargaining team went back to HQ for a "lunch-and-learn" where we gave members in the building and on zoom live updates from the morning's session. The room was packed with members showing up to support their team and ready to fight! ✊ (5/)
It's Day 2 of bargaining, and we're more fired up now than ever! 🔥 We presented all 12 of our economic proposals to management on subjects including fair wage increases to account for inflation, greater pension security, and fair leave and recovery time. (1/)
We also reject the premise that we should bargain against ourselves by guessing what changes will be acceptable to management. You don't get what you don't fight for. (4/)
We have adjourned for the day to finish writing our economic proposals and will be ready to present first thing tomorrow AM. See y'all tomorrow! ✊ (6/6)
Today is USU's first day of bargaining for our 2023 contract. We are excited to fight for the issues that affect our membership every day, because workers of the movement are workers too. Watch this space for updates! #1u#weworktogethernotapart (1/)
After reading our 51 (!) pages of non-economic proposals to management, they were not prepared to discuss any of the subjects presented without also seeing all written economic proposals (which take wayyy longer to write when you're waiting on an employer RFI, iykyk). (5/)
.@AFSCME needs to live up to its legacy as a standards-bearer for social justice unionism and civil rights – as a union and as an employer. #BlackLivesMatter#1u
USU members stand with the rest of the labor movement – and with protestors in the streets – demanding justice for #GeorgeFloyd, #BreonnaTaylor, #AhmaudArbery, and countless other victims of systematic racism.
With one voice, as a union, we say #BlackLivesMatter. #1u
But demanding justice for #GeorgeFloyd, #BreonnaTaylor, and #AhmaudArbery alone is not enough. Impassioned and well-meaning press statements are not enough.
We might send five to the bargaining table, but there are a lot more of us with them in solidarity. We're still standing for a better bargain! #USUReddy#USUSolidarity
