A Detroit based, Black youth led organizing group. Creating new worlds through black futurism via arts, tech, & healing. Our resistance stems from creation💙
Just got off a call with organizers who live in Ireland & im excited
We talked about ways to connect AFY with their youth so we can organize around creating communities free from state violence
I’ll be in Scotland in June & im hoping I can make my way to them 🌟

We know the revolution won’t be funded. There aren’t enough dollars to go around to sustain all the projects & work. Nor should organizing work rely on pay
When the work relies on funding it’s contradictory to the work itself
we’re going back to community support in other ways
It’s also been an amazing year financially
$90k in one grant (split between 3 years)
$6k from GoFundMe
$5k from Skillman
We were nominated for every last dollar by the community. No initial applications
We’re working on divesting from capitalist funding after this though✨
It’s literally been years of doing this work solo while repairing my capacity to trust again after experiencing much harm
I finally found someone who feels like family to hold this work with me. Shared ideologies, values, & commitment to political edu & revolution

Sorry we’ve been so quiet on here. Adrienne has been running the behind the scenes aspects of AFY by themselves while helping our siblings with liberation projects, until last month when we got an intern. 🌟
Can’t wait to introduce y’all to them.
As always thanks for sharing y’all 😊
Liberation projects start debuting this summer.
2 films
An anti capitalist art & healing space for Detroiters
& political education sessions for African parents of trans youth
Stay tuned ☺️

We understand these may seem like a lot of traits to some folk, but we want you to understand these things are necessary for the protection of our youth & our people
Furthermore, revolution & developing/developed values is never a separate aspect from anything we do in this org
We’re excited about our nomination from the Skillman Foundation President Youth Council which led to a surprise $5,000 grant we were awarded at the end of last week
The recipients announcement has now been made public. A special thank you to Jeremiah Steen for seeing the vision
