@RivaGiuseppe Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) are at the forefront of modern neuroscience technology. @anna_wexler and @AFeinsinger discuss important ethical considerations for translating BCIs from the laboratory to real-world and non-clinical applications. [6/13]

As brain-computer interfaces move from labs to real-world applications, they pose unique ethical challenges. From prioritizing access to anticipating impacts on stigma, our article in @NatureHumBehav calls for careful consideration. https://t.co/fx0zIPChnu

Truth. But, it is an odd position to occupy. Working *on* and *in* neurotech often feel incompatible. Something about Quine, holism, and the difficultly of changing single sentences within a science without accepting large parts of the whole theory, including choice of language.

Extending patient-centred communication to non-speaking intellectually disabled persons | Journal of Medical Ethics. Very excited to see this in print and to continue thinking about philosophy of language and disability with @allyhpsmith ! https://t.co/byuRdl3UJE
This! Patient advocates (and participants) are experts. I would add that engagement with them is crucial from and ethical and regulatory perspective. Very honored to moderate a symposium on this at the upcoming BRAIN investigators meeting. @NeurotechNetwk@USBrainAlliance
This is a thoughtful article about what are some key elements in the development and field of Brain-Computer Interfaces.
Thanks to @naveen101 for recognizing advocates in this space & more. There are countless #bionicpioneers out there.

We’re excited to support 64 interdisciplinary teams that are taking innovative approaches to study fundamental #neuroscience + neurodegenerative diseases. Read more about our second cycle of @ChanZuckerberg’s Neuroscience Collaborative Pairs Pilot Projects https://t.co/lHmlEbDOMj
Tldr: the ethical ideal of patient-centered communication should be animated by an openness to diverse modes of communication and a commitment to promoting the conditions that enable participation in healthcare communication for all patients. We are not currently doing this well.
