My full review of #WeAreAllTryingHere

I had very high expectations going into this when you look at how the writer - Park Haeyoung has delivered incredible works like My Mister and My Liberation Notes but she grabbed my attention but I’m glad she didn’t disappoint.

PHY’s writing has always been raw and she didn’t dilute her writing this time around too. The drama is so grounded in reality it becomes outrightly uncomfortable in some scenes. Every dialogue is so well written that it takes a while to digest. We see the characters struggle, fail and grow and it’s an emotional rollercoaster of seeing people try at this thing called life.

More than anything, the drama feels like an ode to the writer’s personal journey in a very difficult industry. Her writing of Eun-ah feels rather personal as though she is showing us an intimate part of her struggles both mentally and professionally.

I particularly loved the big flex of writing more than a dozen gorgeous poems, both for the character Jinman that is a failed poet and for the opening of each episode that starts with a poem narrated by a lead character. Not every screen writer can pull off incorporating award winning poems into an already layered plot.

Beyond the incredible writing of this drama, is an amazing ensemble cast that gave incredible performances. No single actor leaves you wanting when they execute their lines. Koo Kyohwan was born to play the role of Hwang Dongman and at no point did it feel like he was acting. The directing is incredible, cinematography, OST is quality all round.

Up to the 11th episode, I wasn’t sure how this would be wrapped up nicely by the 12th episode because I felt it needed to be a bit longer. But by the time I watched that ending, I was reminded again that being a slice of life genre, the stories of each character will continue. Even the mental health issues addressed in the drama don’t get a miraculous healing as we see in most dramas as a reminder that healing is a continuous process.

In conclusion this drama is a masterpiece, an incredible work of art and I make bold to say the most beautiful story I’ve seen in 2026. It’s raw, it’s undiluted and not every one will relate to it but that won’t stop me from recommending this heavily.
