He painted her for three months — stopping every time the sirens came, starting again every time the sky cleared.
Artist Oleksandr Korban created the mural "Вільна" ("Free") on a wall in Kyiv's DVRZ district. No projector. No tracing. Straight onto the surface, freehand. Dozens of air alert interruptions. The girl has no name — she is, the artist says, every Ukrainian woman who waits, hopes, and believes.
That's not just paint on a wall. That's what staying looks like.
"In this phase of the war, when motivation is rare, even a trolleybus driver fixing a fallen wire 1.5 km from the river gives strength."
Some day soon, just like those spring trees we will blossom, we will recover from this long long winter...
Today we spent hours walking through Kherson almost to the Dnipro. Empty streets, a few people at bus stops, the familiar trembling silence of the historic center. Near the ruined city hall, a man was playing rhythms on the fence with drumsticks. Blooming trees created an illusion of safety.
I remembered Kherson in 2020 — heavy traffic, crowded cafés like Twin Peaks where it was impossible to find a free table.
I remembered Kherson in 2023, right after liberation, when we lived two streets from the river and I ran past the still-standing bridge between evacuation shifts.
Now it’s 2026. Last year on April 16 my favorite place, Kit na Dakhu, closed. I remember the date. Its neon sign, the cats, the hookah, the charismatic waiter — it was a refuge in the dark empty streets in 2023 and 2025.
I saw cafés reopen after liberation in 2023 — and close again in 2025 under drone attacks and emptiness. Those who keep working now earn my deepest respect. In this phase of the war, when motivation is rare, even a trolleybus driver fixing a fallen wire 1.5 km from the river gives strength.
Today my husband and I walked hand in hand through places where almost no one walks anymore, like fools. We imagined how quickly people would return, windows be replaced, and damaged facades restored once victory comes.
I walk these streets — and will keep walking them.
Because I want to stay with this city in its hardest time. 🇺🇦
Its not true that Ukrainians are very religious and all wear traditional clothes. It is mostly concentrated in such cities as Lviv and other western cities. We are very much secular country, though we get back to our roots and traditions more these days 🥰. Anyway, it looks very beautiful.

I've just got a strong feeling how #enslaved we all are...How thick and heavy this layers of the numerous #chains has been placed around us. The invisible chains, the financial chains, the cultural chains, the food-dependance chains and so many others. Perhaps that is the heaviness I feel constantly. They call it life. Ha ha ha. Nope. This is the human made, created, artificial life. If one has just a tiny bit of #wildness inside, one would feel it.
P.s. Music miraculously unlocks some of them...dont you think?
I feel that someday we will realise where the magic truly lies, who's a Muggle and who's a Magician in this mad AI whirlpool. In my world #NathanielDrew is a Wizard, he performs magic with his sincere words.

No matter what is happening in the #world, #spring has arrived. The ice is melting, flowers are beginning to bloom, and hope for a better future has received a renewed surge of #energy. It's nice to have something so reassuring and stable, something to hold on to. I choose #Nature 🍀🍃🍀🧙
@NewswirePatriot This woman is not only gifted with bright mind and talent, but she's also brave and honest. I totally support her efforts in calling things as they are, instead of pleasing everyone.
I still cannot believe that russian athletes are now participating in the 2026 Winter Olympics.
While Ukrainian athletes are being killed by russians, russian athletes are being rewarded with participation in the Olympics.
Don’t even try telling me that these are “different russians” and that they are not accountable for the actions of their government. No — they are accountable for their silence, complacency, and inaction. Moreover, many of them actively support their government and the genocide against the Ukrainian people.
https://t.co/7ZbZzfOZib and government are inseparable in russia. Sport is financed by the state. Olympic medalists are paid by russian authorities.
2.Russian athletes are members of the russian military. Despite the so-called “neutral” flag at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, russian military athletes won 14 out of 32 medals. These are the same military servicemen who are killing Ukrainians at this very moment.
3.Most russian athletes support the war and the russian regime. They can be seen standing side by side with Putin at major events, delivering patriotic speeches, and proudly wearing the “Z” symbol.
4.Russia uses sport as a propaganda tool. Even if a russian athlete wins an Olympic medal under a white flag, the russian state will use it for propaganda and imperialistic purposes.
5.Ukrainian athletes must be protected. Hundreds have been killed by russians. Hundreds more have lost their limbs and will never compete again. Those who survived and can still compete face enormous disadvantages, as hundreds of sports facilities across Ukraine have been destroyed by the russian military.
I don’t know who made the decision to allow russians to participate in the Olympics, but it is a sign of complete moral bankruptcy.
