Cities face a potential 'doom spiral': rising pension costs and shrinking tax bases force cuts and tax hikes, creating a cycle of decline. The long-term financial health of urban centers is at stake. #UrbanFinance#CityPlanning
Cities are predicted to lose their edge as a new generation of retirees takes over, potentially leading to the decay of once-trendy neighborhoods. What does this mean for urban futures? #UrbanTrends#FutureCities
The fundamental issue with modern systems: demanding freedom without willingness to take responsibility. We want individualism, but off-source consequences to the government, then complain about taxes.
Redistribution doesn't create wealth, it only transfers it. Governments can't create value; they can only enable markets and individuals to do so. Promising more wealth than exists leads to dysfunction. #Economics#Politics#Wealth
Political coalitions are unstable because promising unlimited freedom without responsibility is unsustainable. Governments can't force responsibility without losing voter support through taxes, spending cuts, or moral regulations. This creates a constant cycle of instability.
Rust Belt cities faced a similar 'hollowing out' to today's urban struggles. Rising land costs are now the new barrier, replacing unions in driving people away. #UrbanIssues#Economics
Experiencing Peter Pan Syndrome? Common signs include ongoing financial struggles, difficulty committing to relationships or careers, and a tendency towards escapism. Understanding these patterns is the first step. #PeterPanSyndrome#SelfHelp
Networking events are a waste if you don't genuinely care about the cause or group. Trying to force connections based on weak interests, like attending a charity golf tournament just because you like golf, won't yield results. Focus on events where your true affinity lies.
Networking is about giving first. Help others advance their goals, and you become top-of-mind for future referrals. Take initiative to help others; they'll be more likely to help you back. #NetworkingTips#BusinessGrowth
Networking advice often misses the mark. True connection happens when you don't have an immediate need. Focus on helping others first – referrals often come back to those who give. #NetworkingTips#ProfessionalGrowth
Adults avoiding responsibility and prolonged adolescence? That's Peter Pan syndrome. Experts link it to economic insecurity and cultural shifts since 2008. Are we delaying adulthood? #PeterPanSyndrome#Adulting
Demographic shifts trigger predictable political and economic ripples. The 'Peter Pan income shock' is now hitting older professionals hard in corporate America. #Demographics#Economics#Workplace
Is San Francisco's future more like Venice or New Orleans? A tourism-dependent economy and population shift are creating challenges for families and landlords alike. #SanFrancisco#UrbanFuture
Pets are outnumbering kids in major cities! Delayed parenthood and changing lifestyle choices are driving this trend. What do you think this says about modern life? #PetLife#UrbanLiving
I strongly disagree with you on this. At least half of the millennial and Gen Z couples I know have at least one parent (if not both) that do not drink. I don’t drink either and plan on having at least two children (likely more). I think the better proxy are those who don’t drink but use another drug instead (they are less likely to take responsibly)
Millennials are forming families at historically low rates. Childlessness is rising, especially among college-educated women. A significant shift in societal norms. #Sociology#Demographics
@Pat_Stedman I’ve met high achieving women who told me they don’t want kids because they couldn’t hand them off to a wife like a man could. You’re right about this.
Young people face tough career and life choices. Entrepreneurship and city-building offer alternative paths. But what's the real economic impact of childless millennials on our cities? #FutureOfCities#Millennials
Expensive cities are prioritizing singles and renters, but this nostalgic approach fuels a long-term decline in rents. It mirrors historical urban hollowing, driven by outdated policies. #UrbanPlanning#RealEstate
