In light of this, we arrived here yesterday with the intention of staging a sit-in protest at India Gate. We want to question the government: how could they appoint Dushyant Kumar Gautam as the Governor of Sikkim while a CBI investigation is ongoing? We have issued a 24-hour ultimatum: if this appointment is not revoked within this timeframe, the public—both across the country and throughout Uttarakhand—will take to the streets. Furthermore, we demand that the CBI hold accountable those responsible for the destruction of evidence... We also demand that the location data and phone records of Ajay Kumar and Dushyant Kumar for September 18–19, 2022, be retrieved. Additionally, regarding the old phone belonging to the accused, Pulkit—which the SIT failed to recover—we urge the authorities to obtain a duplicate SIM card for that device to extract all its data. This would reveal exactly whom Pulkit was communicating with on that day, as all such interactions would have been recorded on that phone."

The Ankita Bhandari murder case is back in the spotlight after Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joined her parents at India Gate for a sit-in protest.

Detained by police and later released, the family has issued a 24-hour ultimatum, demanding a hold on Dushyant Gautam’s appointment as Sikkim Governor and a probe into the allegations surrounding the case.

They warn of more protests if their demands are not met.

@rashtrapatibhvn has named BJP ex-SC Morcha chief Dushyant Gautam Governor of Sikkim in a six-state reshuffle.
👉Controversy: His name carries baggage. Ankita Bhandari, 19, was killed near Rishikesh in 2022 after refusing pressure to serve “VIP” guests. Three men, including resort owner Pulkit Arya, got life sentences in May 2025. The SIT never named a VIP.

Viral clips in late 2025 allegedly named Gautam. On 7 Jan 2026, the Delhi HC found a prima facie defamation case and ordered the clips taken down.

@pushkardhami then sought a CBI probe, and @CBIHeadquarters filed an FIR against an “unknown VIP.” Nine months on, the opposition says there has been no visible progress. @INCUttarakhand chief @UKGaneshGodiyal will sit on a silent fast in Dehradun on 14 Oct.

The caste arithmetic points at UP, and on paper Gautam is legally clear. But Raj Bhavan should demand more than "not charged." Congress has a real grievance in the CBI's silence, and that silence hurts Gautam too. The only clean ending is for the CBI to close the VIP angle, whichever way the evidence points.

Meet Dushyant Gautam, a big face of BJP Uttarakhand.

You all are aware of the Ankita Bhandari case:

Ankita was a receptionist at a resort.
One day, Dushyant came to stay at that resort.

He asked the hotel management to provide him with a girl for his “service” (in other words, sex).

The hotel management offered Ankita ₹10K for this.

Brave girl Ankita didn't take even 1 second to refuse.

She was brutally murdered, and three men were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.

It's been 4 years, and Ankita's father, a security guard, is still fighting for justice for his daughter.

And now, Dushyant Gautam, whom Ankita's parents have accused of being the VIP, has been rewarded with the Governor's seat in Sikkim.

To make matters worse, Article 361 of the Indian Constitution provides immunity to a sitting Governor from criminal proceedings in court during their term.
