After Ethan’s passing, Erin left her former career to devote herself to this work. Her brilliance, commitment, and leadership — building a coalition of 500+ organizations — is now going to save tens of thousands of lives, and their families as well. I’m immeasurably proud of her.

There are only a few days left to submit your feedback on @TxDOT’s proposal to widen I-35 through central Austin, which will bulldoze homes, schools, and small businesses and set back our climate goals.

Here’s the feedback I submitted —>
Today, I’m announcing @moreperfecttx — a first-of-its-kind effort to provide seed funding and policy support, at no cost, to local Texas organizers to help them lead successful campaigns for structural democracy reform in their communities. More:

It's election day in NYC, which means we get to see ranked choice voting in action!
This past May, Austin voted in favor of adopting RCV. Hope we soon hear an implementation plan for next year's elections from the City Manager...

As we enter the final days of voting in the New York City mayoral race, I took a look at how the new ranked-choice voting system there and elsewhere around the country has elevated women and people of color candidates. My latest for @19thnews: https://t.co/kgtVUwWKx1
It's time for Congress to pass the MAT Act. Amidst a growing overdose crisis, health care providers need access to proven and effective addiction treatment. I'm proud to lead this bipartisan effort with @RepPaulTonko.
Call your representatives and ask them to PASS the #MATAct.To learn more about the #MATAct, read the full letter from @EndSUDNow and 120 leading orgs to Congressional leadership: https://t.co/q5KzVds3lD
#RankedChoiceVoting is having its moment at the ballot box, passing in 7 city referendums in just 7 months 🙌
Andrew Allison of @austindemocracy explains why Austin voters are ready for this reform. https://t.co/PtAxpOYzd4
It might take a bit longer than I’d like to get Democracy Dollars going in Austin, but we’re ARE going to make it happen! And y’all are going to love it!
We are encouraged by this data. It suggests that it is only a matter of time before Democracy Dollars is law in Austin, either because the council passes a version of this policy by ordinance, or because a future campaign puts it on the 2022 or 2024 ballot.
Prop H, the “Democracy Dollars” program, failed 43% to 57%, but a deeper examination of the results indicates that it may have prevailed on a November ballot. Here’s the district-by-district data:
In a November federal election, i.e., a midterm or a presidential election, (1) the turnout east of MoPac would have been higher relative to west Austin, and (2) the margins in each district would have improved as a result of the more progressive November electorate.
If we do not add more districts, then by 2030, each district will have 30% more residents than it did when 10-1 began. The effect will be a reduction in representation and access for everyday Austinites.
These last few days I’ve been sharing some analysis of the democracy reform election results.
Here’s a thread about Prop D: https://t.co/IbdAczXmYE
And here’s one about Prop E: https://t.co/CrqEcsiGha
This thread has the district-by-district data for Props F and G.
Yesterday I shared some analysis of the Prop D results. This thread has the district-by-district data for Prop E, the amendment to adopt ranked-choice voting.
This amendment may have passed in a presidential election, and we hope that the council considers giving the voters the opportunity to add at least two districts — to maintain an odd number of council members — in a future presidential contest.
