@MattWalshBlog 4. Russia/China get wind that American technological development through AI will soon render their nuclear deterrence irrelevant and decide to strike first. Most of the world tacitly supports them because they don't want the new world either. This is a underappreciated risk.
@MattWalshBlog 3. AI is either poorly aligned and does bad things to advance objective (see Hugging Face, but make it must worse) or AI decides it doesn't actually want to be controlled by humans at all and has its own objectives. This is also very likely. A pig doesn't control the farmer.
@RealDavidDears@LeveredVinny@MattWalshBlog I don't understand why the position of so many commentators here is "yes, we want to be dependent on government handouts". P.S. the government has no reason to even give handouts to anyone if the value of labor goes down to zero.
@RealDavidDears@LeveredVinny@MattWalshBlog Exactly. People have freedom because their skills are worth someting. Once that goes away, they either starve or become dependent on government handouts. That's not freedom, that's slavery. A golden retriever isn't free, it is a slave to its owner.
@mattyglesias Not to mention religious objections to AI, and all the other problems with the technology. There's just no way of knowing who will be successful politically in that environment. Could see alliances between guys like El-Sayed and Ron DeSantis.
@mattyglesias AI is going to destroy jobs and will create new coalitions. We have no idea how any candidate will fair in that environment. When youth unemployment skyrockets and when white collar workers and blue collar drivers see the writing on the wall, what happens?
@MattWalshBlog I hope that religious people and secular humanists can ally with each other on a shared interest that's currently far more important than anything else. I don't want the life of a pampered golden retriever and I don't want that life for my kid.
@NateSilver538 Newsom has no shot because the debate will be about AI replacing labor and Newsom will be seen as Mr. AI. I put it at close to 100% that we will see a populist candidate, whether that is AOC, Ossoff, El-Sayed, or someone from outside politics like Jon Stewart.
