Development of our Elementary, JH & HS student-athletes for better output on the field, court, track, course, & in the classroom. @Ben33Fox & @GilesFFox
@brianmccormick Check out our youth games on Instagram @aesbluejays
Some exercises are not “decision-making” but most of our GAMES use visual and spatial stimulation for decisions like most ball-sports, just in a slightly altered “game setting”.
Play with specific constraints are key!
It's playoffs for the boys at @AHSPowerjays I've been working with all season
Our lesson last night to prepare was on the famous '300' Spartans and getting ready for the ultimate contest
Proud of the work these boys have put in to become leaders on and off the field

Today we dialed it back and did some character work and team building after a short practice. Great discussion and activities
Sample of things discussed:
1) Some of us have no football heroes...yet
2) Everyone has songs that amps them up
3) Team football > Playing as individuals
My Academy is hosting another lesson tonight with Coaches @Ben33Fox & @GilesFFox for their @AHSPowerjays football team
The Lesson:
Why do we praise athletes?
Pindar, the poet who memorialized Olympic Champions
The link between art and sport
What art inspires you as an athlete?
It's very difficult to argue against small sided games with youth. More ball touches, more involvement, more chances to improve, more opportunities to learn... Full games discriminate against lesser talent unintentionally when the game gets too fast w/full team
@MJPLanceW @ETurnerFF_PT @baker_b2@JeremyFrisch Many programs seem to be training for the sake of weight on bar and “max” clout.
(output only).
We train a short season of powerlifting but most of our athletes play 2-4 field/court sports.
(input-processing-output OR input-reaction)
Kids know how to cut, curve run, regain balance, tumble, chase, evade, get off the ground, read space & angles as well as appropriate sport contact.
But is there any carry-over if it is trained “isolated” from PLAY?
#playistheway
@MJPLanceW @ETurnerFF_PT @baker_b2@JeremyFrisch Yes/No🤔...Yes!...Yes!!!
More play certainly can’t hurt when pick-up games & playgrounds are being replaced by screens.

@coach_samuelT@JeremyFrisch Big thanks for introducing this to me, I’ve spent a couple days getting into this, especially pondering how we can bring the game to our students and athletes. I will definitely be using it and keeping my eyes out for it more!
@coach_samuelT It was our first timing trying it out with athletes, I believe it was stolen from Javelin training programs. We will go back to it because it was a good coordination/control challenge for our athletes.
