SOUNESS V GERRARD

After the absolutely shambolic top 100 from @LFC that didnt include Wille Stevenson in the top 100 I thought i should post as to why you take Souness everytime over Gerrard.

In simple terms he was the best in the world in his position whilst at Liverpool, only Suarez and Gerrard could make that claim and both of the others had times when they clearly were not the best in the World in their position.

The biggest thing is Souness has never ever been replaced some 42 years after he left the club.

Dalglish replaced Keegan, Beardsley replaced Dalglish but only Johnny Giles and Roy Keane get anywere close to Souness.

Gerrard didnt play the Souness role so its impossible to make direct comparissons and as Rafa will tell you Gerrard used to vacate midfield and he had to create a team to put Gerrard in his best postion be that the 10 ahead of Xabi and Mascherano or in the RM position but moving in centrally. No such issues with Souness

But Souness and Gerrard are easily the two best Midfielders to play for #LFC

If you could have swapped prime Souness for prime Gerrard we win the title in 2002, 2008 and 2014. This is not to diss Gerrard but to point out how good Souness was.

Interestingly my two biggest heroes watching the game were Keegan and Dalglish and its now only with Hindsight I realize that Souness was the man.

How many players have come close to being as good as Souness in my lifetime. I can only think of Rikjaard, Matthäus and possibly Seedorf but none of those could match Souness with the ball.

Souness was really Roy Keane and Glenn Hoddle roled into one and nasty with it.

I think that covers it

Keegan and Gerrard were the shining beacons of their teams

Whereas Dalgish and Souness had a brilliant supporting cast
