As we work to free Mahmoud Khalil, never forget that Gaza is without food, medicine or electricity. He was protesting the genocide of our people, a genocide Israel is continuing through starvation and strikes. Eyes still on Palestine.
As we wait for the final update on the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli military is intensifying shelling in south Gaza while bombing the north of the West Bank.
A warmongering regime.
A ceasefire deal is a victory in the sense that israel failed in its goals and Palestinian resistance did not surrender, it does not mean that Palestinians won’t continue to be killed, or living under occupation and oppression.
I am so numb. I am so angry. I am so broken. I am sobbing. I am cautious about hope. I am reaching for relief. The only thing that is clear is the work still ahead of us to hold Israel to account, to make sure none of this happens again, to help Gaza rebuild, to Free Palestine.
Israel has destroyed the last remaining hospital in northern Gaza.
We have witnessed the total decimation of Palestinian healthcare, met with silence from political leaders who refuse to acknowledge the horrors they have enabled.
This is the dehumanising reality of genocide.
Al Jazeera’s Gaza correspondent, Anas Al-Sharif, has been awarded Amnesty International’s 2024 Human Rights Defender Award. The accolade recognises his outstanding reporting on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and his vivid portrayal of civilian suffering amidst ongoing conflict.
Benjamin Zephaniah on his refusal to accept an OBE.
'No way Mr Blair, no way Mrs Queen. I am profoundly anti-empire.'
Today marks one year since he passed away. A man of integrity. Rest in power.
The world has witnessed the government of Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in occupied Gaza. Month after month, the government of Israel has treated Palestinians in Gaza as a subhuman group unworthy of human rights and dignity, demonstrating its specific intent to physically destroy them. Israel's government and state officials responsible for the crime of genocide must be held accountable. We are calling on all States to use every legal avenue to bring suspected perpetrators to justice. No one should be allowed to commit genocide and remain unpunished. https://t.co/lyfB55V7Y5
Horrifying testimonies coming from Kamal Edwan Hospital about last night.
Israel is systematically stripping away all aspects of life in northern Gaza.
Tonight, I was deliberately targeted by Israeli forces. After receiving word of a nearby bombing, I jumped into my car to report . Upon arriving at the house packed with terrified people, I could hear their desperate screams for help from the second floor. The moment I stepped inside, the house was bombed again, and dismembered body parts of the wounded flew around me. Rubble crashed down on me and my colleagues; One first responder was killed, and while my colleague and I were injured, many others did not survive.
Why a father needs to endure this?
And it did not start 13 months ago. While the violence against the Palestinians has since then escalated at unprecedented fast pace, Israel has globally killed, maimed, made orphans and homeless, kidnapped and held hostage, tortured and raped, tormented and persecuted millions of Palestinians since its inception as a State and more forcefully since 1967.
Palestinians are a nation of Nakba survivors, who have never ceded sovereignty over their land, and who have been forced to live with, or at the conditions set by, their oppressor for decades.
May the current tragedy lead to much needed reckoning with the Past and Justice.
🚨A truck of “aid” arrives in #Gaza, only to reveal it’s filled with burial shrouds because we’ve run out in Gaza ,,,
Shrouds for the bodies of children Israel kills every moment ‼️
Thank you, world. Thank you for your support… shrouds are just what we needed‼️
When it is all said and done, your condolences, your regrets, your apologies, your remorse, your shame won’t mean a thing. What you do to save lives here and now is the only thing that matters.
‘You may choose to look the other way but you can never say again that you did not know.’ William Wilberforce abolitionist.
Make no mistake, there will be a reckoning. Looking forward to the excuses. Silence is complicity.
