FG Earmarks N17 billion For Presidential Air Fleet, Yacht In Supplementary Budget

The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) in Nigeria's budget has allocated N8 billion for the purchase of aircraft for the presidential air fleet.

This amount is part of the recurrent expenditure in the ONSA budget, which has a total budget of N29.7 billion.

Other items in the budget include the settlement of outstanding annual service legal agreements and bandwidth subscriptions for ONSA intelligence platforms (N4.7 billion) and Operation MAD Thunder-NSA (N10 billion).

The ONSA also plans to spend N2.2 billion as part settlement of outstanding liabilities for the procurement of treated/operational vehicles for the State House and ONSA.

The budgetary allocations for the presidential air fleet have historically raised concerns among Nigerians due to the high cost of maintenance.

Nigeria had budgeted N73.3 billion for the presidential air fleet from 2011 to 2020, and as of 2015, there were 10 jets in the presidential fleet.

In 2016, former President Muhammadu Buhari promised to sell two of the jets to save costs.

The presidential fleet already received a N13 billion allocation in the 2023 approved budget.

Additionally, the federal government intends to spend N5 billion on the purchase of a presidential yacht, which is included in the capital expenditure of the Nigerian Navy's budget.

The navy's total budget requirement is N62.8 billion, with N20.4 billion allocated for recurrent expenditure and N42.3 billion for capital expenditure.

The federal executive council (FEC) approved the submission of a supplementary budget of over N2.17 trillion to the national assembly.

If approved by the national assembly, this will raise Nigeria's total 2024 budget to N28.17 trillion.

BREAKING: NLC President Ajaero Hospitalized After Brutal Attack

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, has been hospitalized after a brutal attack by police officers during a union protest in Imo State.

Ajaero sustained injuries, including a completely shut right eye, and was taken to an unknown location, where he was further assaulted.

His personal belongings, including phones and money, were reportedly taken from him during the incident.

The Imo State Police Command initially denied the arrest of the labor leader, stating that he was placed in protective custody.

The police claimed that Ajaero was in Owerri as part of NLC's arrangements to mobilize workers for a protest rally, during which scuffles and arguments occurred, leading to an attack on him by a mob.

Ajaero is receiving medical attention at the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri.
