Hoover, Carter, Coolidge, Reagan, Ford, Clinton, Truman, Bushes, Lincoln, Roosevelts, Obama, Johnson, Kennedy, and many other Presidents on both sides of the aisle did what was right for National Parks and conservation of land...

JFK “National Parks & reserves are an integral aspect of intelligent use of natural resources. It is the course of wisdom to set aside an ample portion of our natural resources as national parks & reserves, thus ensuring that future generations may know the majesty of the earth.”
Even George W Bush added six new Parks to the US National Park system, and he helped add nearly 2.5 million acres to the National Wilderness Preservation System.
More recently, @BarackObama protected more natural habitat than any president in American history, exceeding the 290 million acres by the founder of US National Parks, President Theodore Roosevelt. Great conservation by a great President.
For over a century, presidents and their families have played a pivotal role in shaping our national parks. Lady Bird Johnson, along with philanthropist Laurance Rockefeller, lobbied Congress to create the National Park Foundation in 1967.
Park lovers may be most indebted to Theodore Roosevelt. During his presidency, Roosevelt protected roughly 230 million acres of public land, including five national parks.
For example, President Lincoln set aside a large section of the Yosemite Valley for public use – the first time that had ever been done in the United States. In 1890, that land would become Yosemite National Park.
@lsptex@ColinAllredTX Ask @staceyabrams to help get Texans registered and showing up at the polls. She delivered 2 Senate seats in red Georgia and almost won the Gov seat. We have to get Texans registered & following through with voting. If people vote, you win.
National Parks are a great topic with friends, neighbors & family that you don’t see eye-to-eye with on politics.
Try connecting instead of arguing. Protecting Parks can be a gateway into other topics with shared viewpoints.
Do you have a favorite Parks pic, logo, or shirt?
Well, as I’ve said, the non-voters decided the elections in TX. Apathy is a part of it, but voter suppression from reduced early voting hours & locations, removal of early voting from college campuses & elimination of drive up voting impacted minorities & youth significantly.
From a couple of years ago & still true today. If you know someone in TX, they probably don’t vote (statistically speaking).
Or they don’t vote in their own best interests.
Please convince someone in TX you know to vote @ColinAllredTX over Ted Cruz. Please.
Ever notice how quick @GovAbbott@SenTedCruz@KenPaxtonTX & Texas GOP point fingers at Biden & Dems for problems in Texas? Fast to blame others, but they never take responsibility for GOP failed policies. Covid response, CPS, grid failure, health care, education, school shootings
@ColinAllredTX Path to victory is easy @ColinAllredTX
If
-teachers vote in their best interests
-farmers vote in their best interests
-middle class vote in their best interests
-youth vote in their best interests
-women vote in their best interests
-TEXANS ACTUALLY VOTE IN THEIR BEST INTERESTS
@ColinAllredTX If you get people registered to vote & then they show up to vote, you have a chance. Call @staceyabrams and beg for help.
With voter suppression in TX, I know it is difficult. Plus Texans don’t show up to vote for their best interests. GOP has screwed rural Texas for years.
6+ years later & still around. Easy to get sidetracked with life, but National Parks will always be part of my life. They are ours, and it is our responsibility to take care of them. Thanks for the messages & support & interest in National Parks & the politics that shape them.
