Sony doesn't care about physical media because it doesn't provide maximizing returns (but it does profit a lot).

Prior, Sony beat monopoly allegations due to discs, without discs they effectively hold a monopoly on their hardware.

Say i buy a copy of MW1, Sony makes a sale, then I sell my copy to somebody else for cheap when I'm done. Sony still only makes ONE sale. effectively person 2 is cutting out Sony (so they can't overprice their games)

The entire point is that they are taking away your ability to resell your games so they can charge whatever price they want to B&M in order to charge more for less.

But once I own one, I'm forced to buy digitally through Sony's storefront, meaning Sony faces no competition on its own platform.

Nintendo does the same thing, and they've gotten into hot water over it.
