Wrap-Up of the @WisImpact Cheesehead Challenge:
I have included the records for the teams in the 5 oldest divisions along with TheMRR All-Tournament teams (including MVPs and Vice-MVPs) for the HS-aged classes and Players of Note for the younger players.
I spent both days watching games on the 2 feature courts downstairs where all of the Open Platinum games, a majority of the Open Gold games, and a number of the 15U Gold, 14U Platinum, and the 14U Gold were played. [Of the teams in the 3 HS age divisions, there were only 2 teams (both 2029 teams) that I did not see, but a number of the top players from 1 of those teams filled in on the program's top 2027 team for their final game. I also saw 9 of the 14 teams in the 14U divisions.]
2027 Teams:
Open Platinum:
[2nd part is record vs. tied teams (for tie-breaker)]
T1st--NH 1848 2027 (4-0, 0-0)
T1st--Team Herro 2027 Regional (4-0, 0-0)
3rd--Chapman 2027 (3-1)
4th--United Hoops 2027-Amundson (2-2, 1-0)
5th--WI Playground 2027-Polk (2-2, 0-1)
T6th--WI Playground 2027-Langebartels (1-3, 1-0)
T6th--WI Impact 2027 EYCL (1-3, 1-0)
8th--1on1 Milwaukee 2027 Purple (1-3, 1-1)
9th--WI Truth 2027 (1-3, 1-2)
10th--WI Impact 2027-Overland (1-3, 0-1)
Open Gold:
1st--1on1 Milwaukee 2027 Pink (0-4)
2027 Players:
MVP--@WinonaStateWBB commit @GraceMitch67126 (5'11" W) of NH 1848
Grace Mitchell led NH 1848 2027 to an undefeated record with an average 12.25ppg margin of victory. Mitchell created mismatches all over the court attacking the basket in transition, burying 3s, slashing to the rim off the drive/cut, & crashing the offensive boards for putbacks. She was also disruptive defensively with her length, athleticism, & anticipation.
Vice-MVP--@CTagliapietra35 (5'8" G) of Chapman
(pictured, #3) Cali Tagliapietra played with high-energy all weekend & put constant pressure on opponents on both ends of the court. Her speed & quickness allowed her to create shots for herself or others, & hit open 3s when defenders gave her space to contain her drive. She harassed ball handlers defensively, seemed to be around every loose ball, & turned defense into offense quickly with her speed. Chapman dropped an 8-pt decision to NH 1848 2027, but pulled out 3 close wins to finish 3-1.

T2nd--United Hoops 2028-Dobbs (2-2, 0-1)
4th--WI Impact 2028-Belanger (1-3)
2028 Players:
MVP--@GwennElliott28 (5'11" W) of Chapman
Playing against multiple top 2027 teams in the Open Platinum division, Gwenn Elliott, Mya Mayer, and Brooklyn Luehring all made a case for most valuable player while leading Chapman 2028 to a 3-1 record. But it was Elliott that used her length & athleticism to score at all 3 levels no matter who the defense threw at her, gliding to the basket in transition, hitting 3s consistently, rising up for pull up jumpers over defenders, & getting to the rim to score smoothly off the drive. She also showed versatility defensively whether guarding wings or forwards in the half court, or gathering deflections on the ball or steals away from it in the press/trap.
Vice-MVP--@myalmayer (6'0" F) of Chapman
Mya Mayer was perhaps the most physical finisher in the whole event, doing a great job of using her body to shield off defenders & absorbing contact when scoring around the basket, but she also displayed good footwork to score with a variety of different moves from the low to mid-post & good touch going over the rim or off the board. She also showed that she is more than just a post player with the ability to play facing the basket, taking opposing forwards off the dribble & hitting the occasional mid-range shot.
