@shoebill_j It's common, but most people have no idea what they're asking for. If you're considering monastic life for your own sake, then you're already probably going about it the wrong way. It is a commitment towards God, but also towards the good of all people.

@denimneverdies No that's Gnosticism. Christianity is very explicitly life affirming. This is the very reason that we don't teach something like the Rapture, because we view it as denying the greatness of God's creation.
