Dr John Williams - President of the AMA in South Australia. Advocates for doctors and for the health of all Australians, especially the vulnerable. #primarycare
Our new-look medicSA shows there's a generation of young doctors embarking on brilliant careers and that the future really is bright for medicine and the AMA(SA). To read the Autumn issue, go to https://t.co/3lW7a6oGkC
Very pleased to present the 2023 AMA(SA) Student Medal @Flinders to this year's FMSS President Christine Mausolf at the Flinders graduation ceremony today. Dr Mausolf will do us proud! #ama_media
Antimicrobial resistance, as explained by @ConversationEDU, is a major risk with pharmacy prescribing for UTIs. We don't want to have to turn to superseded antibiotics with serious side effects. @PictonChris@jaynestinson https://t.co/7MkdPQEHbR
AMA(SA) was very happy to join Health Minister @Mark_Butler_MP and Australians for Indigenous Constitutional Recognition's @tanyahosch in explaining why 125+ health organisations are saying 'Yes'. Thank you, Dr Chris Moy, for representing us and the profession. @ama_media
THREAD: Two years ago, myself & Sally Neighbour were subjected to a vile attack by The Australian. Today a @AusPressCouncil adjudication finds the editorial was inaccurate, unfair, lacked balance, caused unnecessary distress & not in the public interest.

As @NC_Robinson and @jameswdowling report practices are being slugged with $450,000 payroll tax bills with just three weeks to pay the liability. We need action from the NSW and Victorian governments or GPs will have to hike fees or shut up shop. #SickTax https://t.co/6fPna6itKM
The AMA continues to call for long overdue reforms to the private health system. Australians deserve access to private health cover at a price they can afford, particularly amid rising cost of living pressures. A private health system authority can help make this happen.
Patients in regional Vic are enduring long waits in EDs and on elective surgery lists.
But this is not isolated to these parts — across Australia our hospitals are in logjam.
We need funding reform to expand capacity and improve performance. Our plan: https://t.co/zEu4CG3rz0
As I explained to @abcadelaide listeners this morning, 'elective' surgeries are essential surgeries that avoid health complications and longer hospital stays. Investment in reducing essential surgery waiting lists is an investment in people and the economy. @ama_media@sahealth
GPs and other private specialists in four states are facing a new payroll tax. If you’re a member of AMA(SA), please complete our 3-minute questionnaire asking how the tax will affect you. https://t.co/pbessPuGCi @ama_media@PictonChris
Today I wrote to @PictonChris to emphasise the AMA's frustration at a large hike in our @Ahpra registration fees. We believe the increase is to pay for the extra work Ahpra is doing for the Health Ministers - so why can't governments fund it? @ama_media@amapresident
AMA(SA) Council is pleased to welcome our Council colleague and @amacdt Chair Dr Hannah Szewczyk as our Chair. We look forward to having Hannah bring her knowledge, expertise, leadership experience and energy to the Chair. #ama#medical#doctorsintraining#publichealth
AMA(SA) Councillor Dr Bridget Sawyer last night co-hosted with RACGP SA and RevenueSA the 1st of 3 webinars to help our GP members understand the payroll tax amnesty and its implications. We look forward to more clarification in the webinars on 14 and 27 August. #publichealth
Such a loss to South Australia, but what a formidable legacy he leaves. A man whose eulogy will surpass his resume, regional and remote South Australians have all benefitted from his tireless efforts to improve outcomes from heart disease across the state. Vale, Phil.
Four essential strategies to fix NSW Health:
1. Better COVID containment
2. Commonwealth fixes & significantly expands primary care
3. Commonwealth ends aged care waits
4. NDIS fixes its systems to support the hundreds of people with disabilities now stuck in public hospitals
One of the unique strengths of the Australian healthcare system is how public and private sectors work in partnership to provide high-quality healthcare to Australians. But reform is urgently needed to maintain the balance.

COVID, the elephant in the room. NSW health was close to breaking point before COVID tipped the scales. No need for another inquiry. The problems are known. Better COVID containment is one of many strategies that need to be implemented @RyanPark_Keira https://t.co/jX4Vi5CXKW
