Thank you to @LeahFBurch@JLSirotkin and @Martina_Smith_ for an absolutely brilliant day at #newdirectionscds. So much to think about as a result, every presentation was excellent and really thought provoking. Very grateful to you for organising today.
Reflections on the second half of the day - @AMAtkinsonPhoto presented an amazing paper on what inclusion does to change the concept of the artist, articulating the shift in inclusive arts organisations towards professionalism/mainstream arts. #NewDirectionsCDS
Art produced by artists with learning disabilities is often classified as 'outsider art', 'disability art' or 'art therapy'. This is very problematic and can mean that their work is undervalued @AMAtkinsonPhoto#cdspgconf19
Disability & Arts : @AMAtkinsonPhoto on collaborative arts practice - raised questions about how learning disabled artists can appeal to the arts world/market whilst avoiding marginalisation of their art? Creative excellence of disabled artists much be acknowledged #CDSPGconf19
