This is utterly inhumane and shameful, is it not @DavidLammy@Keir_Starmer?
When will you act and stop providing arms and military support to Israel?

Fascinating data here: only 30% of students have had an interaction with another student on campus outside of classroom activity. We have to accept that *we* have failed to maintain the social experience of university life. I think this is a root cause of many other problems.
Very happy to be co-facilitating a workshop at #SocMedHE24 with the amazing @SFaulknerPandO.
It is titled: Using Lego® Serious Play® to Explore Social Media for Networking and Professional Development in Higher Education.
It will involve Lego, fun and sparkly pipe cleaners!
I remember Google+, and the idee fixe and mad hype around it (Google was afraid of Facebook).
As a product, G+ was a ghost town. But for the first year or so the G+ team reported astronomical engagement numbers. Huhh?
Finally we learned they were counting every G+ notification dropped at the top of Gmail as an "engagement."
Anyway, I wonder how they're measuring this...

The #Budget2024 pledges more money for public services; but is it more money we need or a more candid & courageous redesign of systems around a person, a community not a silo organisation? All our resources are locked into handoffs between “services” rather than real human help.
I think it behooves us to be skeptical of stories about AI driving people to believe wrong things and commit ugly actions. Not that I like the AI slop that is filling up our social media, but when we look at the ways that AI is harming us, slop is pretty low on the list.

An in-depth investigation by a French newspaper has raised the alarm about potential security breaches and world leaders being put in danger... because their bodyguards use Strava and upload public activities to the workout-sharing platform.

@rajiinio Not saying we shouldn’t be careful with this tech, but the accuracy, clarity, and conciseness of the current human-written notes is pretty questionable. For example, this study found errors in 20% of notes https://t.co/XTFmUh9X99
One day we are going to wake up, after years of the consistent and pernicious pollution of critical information ecosystems, and deeply regret this era of thoughtless LLM deployment.
A devastating loss of accuracy, clarity and conciseness -- for what?

Councils paid CareTech almost £600 million for the care of children and young people last year, according to newly published accounts. But £1 in every £4 went to investors and lenders, not to children in care. This is how private equity is plundering children’s social care.
