So far, instead of negotiating a fair deal, the Media Corporation Gurus have inspired:
—WGA to strike
—SAG to strike
—VFX to unionize
—TV commercial production to unionize
—South Korean Actor & Director strike talks
—Reality Show performer unionization talks
And more to come 😎
What we’ve been saying. How can two major unions like WGA and SAG be negotiating for their futures with an archaic body of execs who are competitors? Makes no sense. Figure it out @NLRB @NLRBGC https://t.co/uZUHmzuD0Q
AMPTP knows (approx.) the number they will settle with each guild. Right now it’s more of a smoke out and waiting game than a negotiation. This is not a victory it just delays the inevitable a little longer imo. Our most effective move will always be to withhold our work.
Want to know a cool and easy way to make the movie industry successful? Put the decision making power into the hands of artists and film-lovers and not corporate appointed numbskulls who only know how to copy and paste. Only then will this business rise from the ashes.
If they have no intention of paying us on time, why don’t we start having our reps convey when a draft is done and that it will be sent upon confirmation of payment, not before?
if you writers keep refusing to take a shitty deal to make more content for us, well, there are lots of other “temporary writers” out there. in fact, one just happened to slide into my DMs today…

I’ve spent the last hour researching unfair labor practices. Seems from what I’ve read, AMPTP refusing to negotiate in good faith is a violation and makes them liable. Not to mention leaking threats like make us lose homes and go broke. Anyone know the legal ramifications.
Stephen Colbert gives a shout-out to The Animation Guild, which will have an opportunity to negotiate a more fair and generous contract for animation workers within the next year.
My other memorable exchange was with a former VP of NBC asking me if a scene would have “suspenseful music” and I told him it would sound like Bernard Herrmann.
The VP asked who Herrmann was. I explained Herrmann composed scores for Alfred Hitchcock like “Psycho” and “Vertigo”.
The VP asked if Herrmann was available. I said “no, the man’s dead.”
The VP responded irritably: “Then why are you pitching him?”

Listen guys. This is a long strike, and everyday it's getting longer. We gotta stay focused on the real enemy, the studios. So many artists have turned this into a witch hunt of each other over social media posts. As if it's sport. As if it's fun. (1/2)
I optioned a script and did 23 rewrites and a bunch of polishes for free so we could get a director attached and then they’d activate the one paid rewrite. I barely (with the help of friends) paid rent for months. But we don’t take risks. Oh yeah— that happened more than once 1/3
