Its not a side effect per se, but the surveillance is meant to determine if the overall immunological response post-vax is making you more susceptible to Hantavirus and even less able to fight it.

This is a real and not crazy concern, especially based on what we now know.

The COVID-vax induced antibodies (IgG) have specific epitopes on the virus (protein surface areas), where they bind to the patogen.

We saw that after multiple COVID-vaccinations, there was a cumulative IgG class switch to IgG4 and these don't have functional fc-receptors, aka the massive immune provocation triggered a natural tolerance response.
These antibodies don't mobilize the specific immune system.

If, by chance, COVID and Hantavirus share protein surface areas (epitopes in 3D space), these COVID IgG4-antibodies will impair the body's ability to identify and kill hantavirus patogens.
