@jdesmondharris You need to lighten up on yourself. As long as you are keeping your negative thoughts to yourself, putting on a neutral (if sympathetic isn't possible) face, and providing material support, you are being a good friend - possibly even doing more than a lot of their friends.

@jdesmondharris Just ask for a reset on the pet-sitting availability. There is a difference between "helping out neighbors occasionally" and unpaid pet-sitting more than a dozen times a year for weeks at a time. And, spur of the moment as well? That's not being neighborly, it's an unpaid job.
