Delhi: When asked about US President Donald Trump criticizing Head of the Catholic Church Pope Leo XIV on social media and asking him to stop supporting the 'Radical Left', Palestine’s Ambassador to India, Abdullah Abu Shawesh says, "You know, when someone has the power to criticize such a significant figure—the Pope himself—it becomes a matter of serious concern. Indeed, this is another step in what we have long described as the deterioration of multilateralism, international rules, and international law. When someone dares to criticize the Pope, it reflects a deeper shift..."
Delhi: When asked about US President Donald Trump’s statement that a blockade on ships entering or exiting the Strait of Hormuz would go into effect at 10 a.m. on Monday to prevent Iran from selling oil, Palestine’s Ambassador to India, Abdullah Abu Shawesh says, "And what about the other countries that use this strait for their ships? If it is closed, it will not affect only Iran—even its allies would not be able to pass through the strait to import oil. Likewise, some of its allies that are oil producers would not be able to export their oil either..."
Delhi: When asked how he views US President Donald Trump’s recent statements on Iran and the broader West Asia situation, Palestine’s Ambassador to India, Abdullah Abu Shawesh says, "Indeed, when it comes to Mr. Trump’s announcements, we have been hearing more than one statement almost every day. Regarding the recent one you mentioned—about blockading the Strait of Hormuz—I am not sure whether he intends to punish Iran or the international community at large. The strait does not serve only Iran’s interests; the passage of vessels and ships through it benefits the global community as a whole..."
Delhi: When asked whether US President Donald Trump’s approach benefits or harms the Palestinian cause, Palestine’s Ambassador to India, Abdullah Abu Shawesh says, "I think Mr. Trump’s approach harms everyone, not just the Palestinian question or the Palestinian cause at large. If we look back a few years to his first term, his approach involved several devastating moves against the Palestinian people, especially when he moved the United States embassy to Jerusalem, which was against international law..."
Delhi: When asked whether the failure of the US-Iran talks was due to Pakistan, and if the outcome would have been different had India been involved, Palestine’s Ambassador to India, Abdullah Abu Shawesh says, "I did not understand the link between the failure of the talks between the Iranian side and the American side, and Pakistan. I am not sure how the two are being connected. From my experience at the United Nations, where I have worked as a moderator and facilitator on many resolutions, the failure or adoption of a resolution cannot be attributed to the coordinator or facilitator. It should rest solely with the two parties sitting at the negotiation table..."
