Last night at the @batashoemuseum's exhibition launch for "Exhibit A," co-curated by @AMatthewsdavid, I learned that the "sneaker" comes from sneaking around undetected. A great exhibition on footwear and crime and a dive into the speakeasy. Be sure to check it out.
Art Gallery of Ontario workers are on strike - I just pledged to not cross their picket line. You can show solidarity by taking the pledge too! https://t.co/YzFxFHJSsp
🧶 Weaving generations together is one of the most touching and meaningful parts of a historian’s job. In this X, I want to show you how clothing can be a useful tool to address the ties b/w (grand)mothers and (grand)daughters, but also gender, memory, and (im)material culture.
KILLER STYLE: HOW FASHION HAS INJURED, MAIMED, AND MURDERED THROUGH HISTORY by @AMatthewsDavid and @serahmarie, ill. by Gillian Wilson is fab and frightening. A stylishly illustrated mash-up of STEAM content, historical anecdotes, and chilling stories #halloween#kidlit 🎃

As crisp as a wind blown beech leaf, the rich brown of this late #1830s day gown is strewn with the self coloured decorative additions that were so popular during this period. I imagine it rustling as sharply as a drift of autumn leaves @KSUMuseum#fashionhistory

The latest issue of @MaterialIntel, a new online publication from @chipstone_org, is all about rubber. I wrote about the Halkett boat, an "extremely clever and ingenious" Victorian rubber boat for explorers that turned into a coat, and vice versa 🛶 ↔️ 🧥https://t.co/o66ziui5rS
There's a huge uproar in England over the destruction of one majestic tree, the Sycamore Gap, and in Ontario we're about to lose *hundreds* for no reason. There should be a massive outcry.
@ZaraKesterton@V_and_A It's a little (toxic) wonder, isn't it? I felt so lucky to have the V and A's expert conservators test it for Fashion Victims! 💐☠️

This little pleated gem is actually a miniature pleated dress, a c1950 reproduction of a late #1940s#JacquesFath couture design. It is a quarter scale, made so that when the pattern was sold to wholesalers, this mini version acted as an exemplar @V_and_A#Fashionhistory
