This week, we are at the #GlobalDataFestival, where this year's theme is "Powering Resilience, Innovation, and Partnership through Data and Technology" -a gathering designed for collaboration, outcomes, and action.
As practitioners, researchers, industry players, and emerging talent collaborate and shape the future of data, our presence here is critical to ensuring that progress does not come at the expense of human rights.
Aligning innovation with accountability and promoting privacy, transparency, inclusion, and rights-based principles are essential to ensuring that technology remains rights-respecting. Let’s continue to build a data-driven future that protects people as much as it powers progress.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to our board member, George Morara, on his appointment as Executive Director of Amnesty International Kenya.
We are delighted to see his leadership and commitment to justice, governance, and human rights advocacy recognized through this appointment. We wish him every success as he takes on this important responsibility.
Hongera! @hakimorara
A thumbs up to @irunguhoughton for his time, unwavering energy, and the courage he has brought to this work. As @hakimorara steps in, our commitment to being bold, vocal, and courageous remains as we continue to campaign for human rights for all.
As a PBO, our lead GoK agency is @PBO_RA This morning, we had cordial and constructive discussions between incoming @hakimorara outgoing ED @irunguhoughton and DG @Laxmana_Kiptoo on an enabling environment for public benefits organisations. The Authority has recently restored sector trust with the inclusive development of #PBOActNow Regulations, support for a smooth migration from the 1999 NGO Coordination Act and sectoral capacity building around compliance. More focus needed around tax exemption, NGO Awards, reporting uptake and establishment of a representative PBO Federation.

“Today, we join the women, girls and children of Kenya to condemn the continued rise in the killings of women and disappearance of children. The statistics are grim. According to Odipodev, 3 women are killed every day and on average, Government of Kenya statistics show that 1 child goes missing per hour. These are not a series of isolated incidents. The trends point to a national security crisis and concern. These figures further illustrate a profound failure of protection. We are calling on the Government of Kenya to immediately declare femicide and the disappearance of children a National security concern and commit the resources, leadership and urgency required to end this crisis. The country has had enough reports, enough taskforces and enough promises. What is needed now is action. Every delayed response costs lives. The safety of women and children is not a special interest issue; it is a national security priority and a measure of whether our country truly values human life, dignity and justice. As we mark Madaraka Day today, let us remember that our freedom cannot be complete until all the women, girls and children of these country are free from violence in all its forms and manifestations”.

Met with survivors of enforced disappearances to discuss the urgency for full reparations, full accountability and non recurrence of police violence during protests. Inspired by their resilient demand for compensation.

Pleased to break chapati with Sheikh Abdullahi Abdi and Salim Vayani of @NAMLEF_ We recalled our collective action against enforced disappearances, mass evictions in Kibos and genocide in Gaza over the last decade. #AmnestyDialoguesKE
In collaboration with Article 43 International, we recently conducted a #DataProtectionKE awareness session for community-based organizations in Turkana County. It was an incredibly inspiring session on understanding the right to privacy at the individual and organizational levels and on how to start their internal process of reflection on their compliance journey. The success of this training was entirely fueled by collaboration. Article 43 helped us shape, refine, and adapt the training to ensure it was relevant, actionable, and directly addressed the unique challenges faced by local grassroots organizations.

Former @amnesty Prisoner of Conscience Patrick Wangamati, @GovWWangamati father, is being buried today.
30 years ago, our supporters wrote 1,000s of letters to demand his release from illegal detention.
May he rest in power and be remembered for his opposition to the one party state.
