From Spain to France, India to Chile, people are taking to the streets to defend what matters.
Because when rights are at stake, silence isn't an option.
Students in Serbia persevered in the face of a growing crackdown on dissent and inspired broad support across the country. Now the recent snap elections show that people are eager to vote for principles over personalities.
The Student List now holds the majority of seats in Serbia’s parliament following a record voter turnout. The protests that led to this historic change reflect the resistance taking place across Europe, where people are demanding their rights - including standing up for improved housing, education and economic conditions.
One year since El Fasher fell to the RSF, the international community has failed to take the necessary actions to address the desperate plight civilians face as the conflict rages. There has been little accountability for abuses in North Darfur.

While much of the world’s attention is focused on upcoming Israeli elections, Palestinians who have endured decades of systematic violations at the hands of successive Israeli governments have little reason to expect positive human rights change https://t.co/jAtoEbm7b4
Sudan: One year after the RSF captured El Fasher, civilians still face unlawful killings, torture and arbitrary detention. New testimonies gathered expose the ongoing atrocities. https://t.co/4l9wBSqkzI
The latest assessment from UN Environment Programme (UNEP) delivers a stark warning ahead of COP31: the world is on course to overshoot 1.5°C, while states, especially those most responsible for the climate crisis, remain dangerously far from taking the action needed to limit the scale and duration of that overshoot and bring temperatures back down.
Communities are already being devastated by extreme weather events, melting glaciers and rising seas. Every additional fraction of warming will deepen the harm to human rights.
States must live up to their legal obligations by taking concrete action to hold Israel accountable for its incessant crimes against Palestinians, including state-driven settler violence. They must halt all trade, investment and cooperation that contribute to maintaining Israel’s unlawful occupation, apartheid and ethnic cleansing campaign. Hiding behind empty rhetoric is not just cowardly; for Palestinians, it continues to be deadly.
Once again, Israel’s apartheid system is turning the olive harvest into a season of horror for Palestinian families across the occupied West Bank. State-driven attacks by settlers on farmers that damage, destroy and steal crops, combined with Israeli military restrictions on access to groves, are causing immense suffering and economic loss for Palestinians.

Kenyan authorities have increasingly used authoritarian tactics, including arbitrary arrests and detention, abductions, malicious prosecution of protesters, surveillance, and media repression, to crack down on protests against deepening economic hardship and the government’s aggressive fiscal policies.
Our new report, out now 👇 https://t.co/vaHLllWyrg
The Indian government is displaying increasingly authoritarian practices in its response to peaceful dissent. The right to protest is constitutionally protected.
The state’s role is to facilitate peaceful protest, not make it an arbitrary privilege granted by the police. Authoritarian practices take hold when dissent is treated as a threat rather than a right. Dissent is not a crime.
More than 600 people die every day as a result of firearms violence, which is driven in part by easy access to firearms – whether legal or illegal.
Our human rights are not protected if our leaders fail to tackle and end the epidemic of gun violence and gun death 💔
The Portuguese authorities must investigate the excessive force used by police to disperse activists earlier today. 150 Demonstrators that set up a camp to peacefully protest the country’s housing crisis faced unlawful force from police that left many injured, including a disabled person. The right to protest must be protected.
PAKISTAN: Responding to the declaration of a state of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as the imposition of governor rule and the deployment of armed forces in the province, Amnesty International said:
“Reports of arbitrary detentions of key leaders – including the provincial chief minister – and internet disruptions across the province raise concerns about the proportionality of these emergency measures. While states may, in strictly limited circumstances, derogate from their human rights obligations to respond to a public emergency that threatens the existence of the nation, emergency measures are not a blank cheque to crack down on human rights, silence dissent, or concentrate power.”

From denying permission for a peaceful demonstration, halting all Delhi-bound trains, and sealing the city’s borders, to issuing an internet suspension order near the protest site, and pre-emptively arresting activists – India’s authorities are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to prevent this march from happening.
The right to protest is protected in India’s constitution. The authorities must immediately lift all these arbitrary restrictions, which violate India’s obligations under international law.
Demonstrations should not depend on obtaining prior permission from the police.

Congratulations to Navi Pillay, the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize laureate!
Navi Pillay's commitment to international law, unwavering independence and guiding moral light have made her one of the most respected human rights figures of our time.
Not only does this award honour an extraordinary individual, it comes at a time when everything Navi Pillay stands for is coming under increasing attack, as powerful states attempt to hollow out the rule of law and jettison fundamental international rules and norms.
Here’s the moment she learned the news, captured this morning at the Nuremberg court by Amnesty International’s Secretary General Agnès Callamard.
The announcement by the Trump administration that it has set the first military execution in more than six decades is reprehensible and showcases the inherent arbitrariness of the death penalty and the authorities’ utter disregard for the right to life.
The death penalty is a violation of human rights, no matter what.

Today, the Nobel Peace Prize honored Navi Pillay's extraordinary legacy: the belief that no one is above the law and that victims deserve truth, justice and reparations.
Just hours later, the @POTUS administration sanctioned the International Criminal Court itself in an attempt to undermine that very principle.
The answer must be resistance, solidarity and a determined defence of international justice. States cannot remain silent. They must act now to protect the @IntlCrimCourt, resist efforts to obstruct its work, and reaffirm that no one is above the law.

President Trump’s sanctions are designed to isolate and ultimately destroy the International Criminal Court. This existential attack must fail. States must take concrete action to resist the imposition of these measures and actively protect the Court.

Your voice matters. You have the right to say what you think, share information and demand a better world.
You also have the right to agree or disagree with those in power, and to express these opinions in peaceful protests.
Yet governments around the world routinely imprison people – or worse – for speaking out, even though almost every country’s constitution refers to the value of ‘free speech’.
Peaceful protest is a human right.
One year since the ceasefire agreement, more than 1,400 people have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza, nearly two million still need shelter, not a single hospital is fully functioning, and 1.4 million face crisis-level hunger.
Accountability cannot be swept under the rubble. The recovery and future of Gaza cannot be separated from a framework grounded in international law, justice, and the rights of victims.
The persistent failure to hold Israel accountable and press Israel to comply with the International Court of Justice’s binding orders continues to fuel the atrocity crimes on a mass scale against Palestinians.
