"Writer"; "Critic."

Bylines in @mubinotebook and elsewhere.

Here is my extremely spoiler-heavy review for Digger (link below). The long and the short of it is that it is a masterpiece, albeit one which is open to many possible critiques and misinterpretations.

Review coming later, but preliminary thoughts on DIGGER:

While there are some critiques I understand, appreciate, and take seriously, I think a lot of critics (especially American ones) are coming away feeling attacked. The claims of didacticism are extremely overblown.

@HitFactoryPod Time for some chicanery -_-

[Alexis Moon @AMoonWriter]

Valks :)

[Richard Brody @tnyfrontrow]

I'm not nostalgic for the midrange-budget drama: they came with so many strings attached that directors were tied down like Gulliver on Lilliput. It was a recipe for either applauded just-above-average successes or derided exceptionally good (via struggle and conflict) bombs.

[Alexis Moon @AMoonWriter]

Frankly, if this is the kind of thing you think, I have contempt for you as a person!

[Alexis Moon @AMoonWriter]

Saw an American refer to writing about film as a "worthless hobby." As if the act of thinking, writing, and expressing oneself could never be worthwhile unless one was getting paid for it. What a stupid, misologistic way to look at art.

[Alexis Moon @AMoonWriter]

@LingoUnbound This is why I keep a duplicate copy of the stuff I write lol. Never know when something will disappear forever :/

[Alexis Moon @AMoonWriter]

@brofromanother I told my mother to go see it because I want to see if she can stay awake for it and if she'll be into it.

[Alexis Moon @AMoonWriter]

It is (positive affect).

[scorsese spam account @PhilmFreak]

saw someone refer to the devils (1971) as edgelord material

Those decisions should already tell you a lot about her as a person!

[Alexis Moon @AMoonWriter]

I think we need to not infantilize women, including her decision to have children after receiving that sentence. Window of opportunity and all that, but even so, she knew what she was doing re: absence in her children's lives. Likewise inviting in a film crew to document.

[Caitlin Flanagan @CaitlinPacific]

I think they needed a woman or two in the crew. Elizabeth was postpartum, still nursing, tears swimming in her eyes because she was days away from missing a huge part of her kids’ childhoods. She was in a state of complete ego loss.

My wife's sister is a decade younger than her, and they are like twins sometimes. Freaks me out every time. Cannot relate!

Top 3 Tony Leung performances. Maybe Top 1 for me, honestly.

FYC in Best Actor: Tony Leung, SILENT FRIEND

@artwithinpod @Srirachachau It makes Seyfried look good (deservedly) and Holmes look worse (deservedly), frankly.

[Alexis Moon @AMoonWriter]

@judysquirrels Absolutely not.

Felt very strange to see The Shining international cut (I wrote a short review why I didn't find it as good as the longer American cut) and to not see the scene with the doctor and Shelly Duvall trying to excuse her husband's abuse with the longest cigarette ash.

[Richard Brody @tnyfrontrow]

Exactly; both terms describe genres, and, as such, are a matter of marketing and convenience—useful, vague, elastic, non-exclusive, and, yes, to use your word and Bazin's, impure.

This bitch can't write, send her for a lobotomy T_T

[Alexis Moon @AMoonWriter]

My wife posted a photo of herself in a group chat with friends of herself crying because I said I'm too lazy to make soul cakes this year T_T come on dude
