Love the @CBSEveningNews’ “Good Stuff” segment. Tonight’s was about @ericchurch’s brilliant commencement speech. @tonydokoupil ended very cleverly saying “Wear sunscreen.” I wonder if the reference to Mary Schmich’s brilliant column went over people’s heads. Worth googling it!
I firmly believe the U.S. had legal and geopolitical reasons to take Maduro. But is this ‘running’ #Venezuela @POTUS @SecRubio?
Fear grips #Caracas as a new wave of repression is unleashed in Venezuela https://t.co/307Ms1IFhE
@AMorePerfectUn7@TerryMoran You can look up the legal arguments on both sides. I think the self-defense argument is valid here & agree with 1989 Biden: https://t.co/PIbWj267h9
Trump on María Corina Machado: "I think it'd be very tough for her to be the leader. She doesn't have the support or the respect within the country. She's a very nice woman but she doesn't have the respect."
@AMorePerfectUn7@TerryMoran No, Andrew. Much as I welcome the action against Maduro and believe it was legitimate, the legal framework for the operation is relevant. Many things make the U.S. the world’s greatest country, but one of the most important is respect for the rule of law.
@TerryMoran I’m concerned as well. I just don’t see how this operation could have, in practice, been OK’d by Congress. The U.S. needs clearer rules on POTUS power, bc even Democratic presidents going back to Carter have engaged in comparable actions without approval.
After years of denying its control of #Venezuela, the lies of #Cuba’s dictatorship are laid bare. It may well be why #Maduro didn’t leave the country— the Cubans wouldn’t let him. And they still control Venezuela’s military - https://t.co/FfE9CJbZih
100% agree w/Elliott Abrams. @POTUS dealing w/remnants of #Maduro regime in exchange for an oil deal, ‘is a formula for disaster, and if that’s U.S. policy, Trump will have turned triumph into a new crisis.’
We need democracy in #Venezuela.

John Bolton: “What I have to say, the most stunning part about the press conference was probably saying the U.S. was going to run the country. But the second most stunning was the assault on Mrs. Machado, the leader of the Democratic forces.”
@PeterZeihan I’ve long enjoyed your commentary, but you’re wrong on this one. 1st, Maduro’s cabal is sadly capable of governing, although I fervently hope they run. 2nd, the long-fractured opposition is united (for now) around Machado. Substantial investment is needed, but not an occupation.
