We had an interesting discussion in work around building ‘Independent Learning’ within KS3. Very curious to hear ideas and thoughts on how history depts deal with this? Is it weekly? Built in at the end of a unit? Do you use independent learning booklets? Or do you do it all?

The conversations around the new TransformEd strategy genuinely look great! But curious to know, when subject curricular leads get to become part of the conversation? Lots of talking to senior leaders but what about the people who will be expected to implement the changes?

History teachers/ literacy based subject teachers- talk to me about whiteboards. How do you use them? What’s the benefit to having them? We have thought about introducing them but need to ensure effective use during lessons.

@English_MrsD We have often debated mini whiteboards for History but haven’t fully committed yet! I’m a big knowledge organiser fan! Do you use them per topic or as a large overview?

@MrWill_Geog It’s wishful thinking! Considering we were all driving on ungritted roads with black ice last week, they won’t think twice about wind. Still hoping for something though! It’s such a horrible experience driving in bad conditions!

CCEA resources and support E-guides are truly awful. Planning frameworks are extremely vague and offer little help to teachers teaching new courses. Also, none of them have been updated since 2017!! Compared to English exam boards where the resources/guidance is great!

Any schools out there have a ‘mindful/well-being’ club in school? Would love to implement this, but unsure of set up etc! I asked this a good few months ago but didn’t get round to doing anything. However it’s a start of a new year!

I found my undergrad dissertation on loyalist opposition to 1798 rebellion & remembered how much I loved writing this. Wish I had carried on this research! If anyone is interested in this topic please do feel free to chat. Feel like I have reunited with a long lost love! 😂

I am so out of touch with the latest pedagogy, something I always loved staying up to date, then I fell out of love with teaching. Then I fell back in love with it and realised there’s lots I’ve missed! So, if you were to recommend some reading/articles/blogs what would they be?

@English_MrsD @MineEYMind This happens so so often. Issue also is, because toilets are full of older students, younger students have to wait an awful long time to use toilet and usually come back at the end of the lesson and have missed lots. The toilet debate is a sensitive one!

It’s at the point of the summer holidays where I start to do abit of prep work for the year ahead. Not ideal, but introducing a new A-Level this year, so want to start the year ready and prepared, not playing catch up. I wish we worked the part time hours many think we do 😂😂

June is usually bittersweet for me as a teacher, as I am used to packing up my stuff and moving onto another school. But not this year!!! After 5 long years, I finally got that permanent job!! Delighted is an understatement! 🙌🙌
