GIET University, Gunupur, successfully organised the Internal Hackathon 2026 on 20 September 2026, aligned with the prestigious Smart India Hackathon 2026, an initiative of the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell and AICTE.

The campus came alive with creativity, collaboration and technological excellence as talented GIETians competed across Hardware and Software categories. Student teams transformed bold ideas into promising solutions for real-world challenges in agriculture, healthcare, cybersecurity, clean technology, robotics, smart automation, education, transportation and other emerging fields.

More than a competition, the Internal Hackathon was a powerful platform for students to demonstrate their technical expertise, critical thinking, teamwork and entrepreneurial spirit. The selected teams will be nominated to represent GIET University at Smart India Hackathon 2026, taking their innovations from the university campus to the national stage.

Through such future-focused initiatives, GIET University continues to build a vibrant innovation ecosystem—empowering students to think beyond the classroom, solve meaningful problems and create technology for a smarter and more sustainable India.

An Appeal to the Government of Odisha

When technical institutions such as polytechnics and government engineering colleges were limited in Odisha, private institutions established by local entrepreneurs played a vital role in making technical education accessible. These entrepreneurs invested their resources, created employment opportunities, contributed to the state’s revenue, and helped thousands of students achieve their dreams of becoming engineers and skilled professionals.

If the government feels that the fees of private institutions are high and place a financial burden on students, the solution should not be to weaken the private education sector by opening excessive government institutions. Instead, the government should consider providing subsidies, scholarships, or financial support to deserving students so they can study in both government and private institutions.

Today, the rapid increase in the number of government polytechnics and engineering colleges has created unhealthy competition and, in many cases, has affected the quality and value of technical education. Simply increasing the number of institutions does not guarantee better education. What matters most is quality, strong infrastructure, qualified faculty, industry collaboration, and better employment opportunities for graduates.

The government should support both private entrepreneurs and the education system. Before opening new technical institutions, it should carefully assess the actual demand, the availability of seats, employment trends, and the impact on existing institutions. Technical institutions should be established based on quality and necessity, not merely on numbers.

Government schools are essential in every Gram Panchayat and village to ensure universal access to basic education. However, technical institutions require careful planning, quality standards, and sustainable development rather than indiscriminate expansion.

I sincerely request the Government of Odisha to consider these issues thoughtfully and frame policies that protect educational quality, encourage responsible private investment, and secure the future of technical education in our state.
