Mahatma Gandhi set an inspiring example of how to create deep, lasting change while holding fast to the principles of peace.
Amid rising tension & conflict, his lessons speak to us with renewed urgency.
Let’s heal divisions through genuine dialogue & diplomacy, end suffering & build a peaceful world through non-violence.
For too many people, growing older means facing insecurity & the risk of being left behind. Our elders are leaders & caregivers, playing a vital role in families, communities & economies.
On this International Day of Older Persons, let's ensure longer lives are lived with choice, security & dignity.
Humanity has lived under the nuclear shadow for more than eight decades.
We must ensure that future generations do not.
Let’s replace threats with dialogue, arms racing with arms control, paralysis with concrete action, and choose a future free from nuclear weapons.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has contributed to #UNGA high-level week – from colleagues in New York & abroad to participants, activists & supporters.
I am proud and grateful for their work.
For the first time in more than half a century, there are no binding limits on strategic nuclear arsenals.
This undermines the security of the entire international community.
I urge all states to engage constructively with every effort that brings us closer to the total elimination of nuclear weapons.
During the past week, leaders from all over the world gathered here at the @UN to participate in #UNGA & come together to discuss some of the biggest challenges of our times.
The UN remains the only place in the world where this is possible.
The UN is simply irreplaceable.
Around the world, racism continues to poison societies, deepen inequalities & deny people their fundamental rights & freedoms.
The antidote is unity & tangible action.
Let’s fight for the dignity, rights and belonging of all people, reject injustice & build societies where racism & discrimination have no place.
The countries with some of the greatest renewable energy potential are receiving the least investment.
Developing countries must be leaders & beneficiaries of the clean energy revolution, not spectators.
The clean energy transition must reduce global inequalities — not reproduce them.
AI is changing how travellers choose destinations, how the industry operates & how travel experiences are designed.
Tourism workers, local communities & emerging destinations must help shape what comes next.
Let us build a digital future for tourism that is open, inclusive & human.
#WorldTourismDay
The greatest power is not the power to dominate.
It's the power to build a future that works for everyone.
Our shared future will be forged by whether humanity can govern power wisely.
Together, let's meet this challenge with determination & resolve for a better world for all.
The dangers of the climate crisis are real.
But so is the hope & rise of clean energy:
The sun belongs to no one.
The wind cannot be embargoed.
Innovation can come from everywhere.
Renewables are now the cheapest source of new electricity in most of the world. And the most viable path to energy security, independence & sustainable growth.
The threat of nuclear catastrophe is back.
But we cannot allow setbacks to weaken our resolve.
It’s time to choose dialogue over division, diplomacy over confrontation & disarmament over destruction.
Let’s build a safer, more peaceful world for all.
I have less than 100 days left in office as @UN Secretary-General & I will carry a spirit of resolve & determination through each of them.
But commitment to UN values is greater than any office & endures beyond any title.
So even when I am no longer Secretary-General, be sure of this:
I'll keep championing the conviction that peace is possible, human dignity is universal, the power of law must prevail over the law of power & our common future is worth fighting for.
I will never, ever give up.
The @UN exists because power requires rules & humanity needs a place where power answers to principle.
The world does not need a weaker UN.
The world needs a UN strong enough to face the world as it is – and determined enough to build the world as it should be.
Without adaptation, droughts become hunger crises, storms become debt crises, and heatwaves become killers.
That’s why we must triple adaptation finance, embed resilience in every policy, budget and infrastructure decision, and extend early warnings to every person on Earth by 2027.
In the volatile context of the Middle East, @UNRWA remains a critical, stabilizing presence.
But its capacity to act is seriously imperilled.
Member States must take immediate action.
I‘m counting on their unwavering political & financial support to protect UNRWA’s mandate and Palestine refugees to safeguard their rights.
Sea-level rise is measured in millimetres.
But its toll is measured in millions of shattered lives, uprooted communities & stolen futures.
The world must answer the SOS — with those on the frontlines front & centre in every decision.
#UNGA
I'm proud to report that for the first time in history, the @UN has achieved gender parity across all senior leadership, headquarters & professional staff.
We removed barriers, challenged assumptions & refused to accept that power must look as it always has. And we never compromised on quality & competence.
If the UN can do it, so can governments, parliaments & businesses everywhere.
The world is crying out for climate justice – in mitigation, in adaptation, in finance.
We must answer that call with action. And we don’t have a moment to lose.
At #UNGA, I asked leaders to over-deliver on #ClimateAction to avert a climate catastrophe.
