@LBC@NickFerrariLBC have you seen what's going on at @DVLAgovuk I've waiting 12 weeks for driving licence address change and they've lost my passport and don't answer the phones.
@jonnygasman@Consult_ENT Have you seen any of the recent work from Stanford? They are advocating for functional frenuloplasty with a team based approach to care. https://t.co/3D8WInUoZo Have a look at their new grading scales to assess function- you might see it differently
@alexhomer@KtJourno@alexhomer@ktjourno The 10% figure is outdated. The prevelance of tongue tie is 34.6% Martinelli et Al. IJDR 2018. So much current research looks beyond breastfeeding and the article missed this entirely.
@deepasanthosh Well said๐ MDT, education and support for the parents. Shame the article misquoted the prevalence of TT. Martinelli has it at 34.6%. Urgently better education on the subject is needed
@flaviomartinsjr @NeoResearch_Net I think a full team approach properly educated in the subject will eliminate much of the risks and then the parents can decide with correct information and post operative support.
@flaviomartinsjr @NeoResearch_Net @flaviomartinsjr I'm suggesting that speech therapy is used for functional swallow assessment. Inhibited range of movement causing orofacial/Myofunctional disfunction. Not suggesting every tt is cut, but fascial release and appropriate therapy should be considered
@NeoResearch_Net .. Lactation support, Myofunctional therapy, ENT, dental ect ect. It needs to be a team, there is no funding for this team approach so parents are forced to seek private care. Its not right. Early detection prevents downstream issues.
@NeoResearch_Net True prevelance of tt that stop bf is far more common than 1%. Again I'm not a bf expert but it's common. Team approach and great training in the subject is key. Osteo/CST for facial release, SLT for swallow assessment, trained surgeons, post op support, parental education.. Tbc
@NeoResearch_Net I would ask that of a functional IBCLC. I think the conversation needs to move away from the breastfeeding and into functional swallow patterns and tongue rest positions. Some choose not to breastfeed and the research could easily be misinterpreted.
@sarahkedney@joelgiblett@NeoResearch_Net@joelgiblett how much training have you had specifically in frenuloplasty? The prevelance of tongue tie is 34.6% Martinelli et Al. IJDR 2018. I'm not suggesting everyone needs a release but considering the the function is key and needs to include assessment of compensations.
@kategloudemans @RCNMidwives Also the information is outdated, The prevelance of tongue tie is 34.6% Martinelli et Al. IJDR 2018. More to tongue tie than just feeding- compensations are detrimental to breathing, sleep, craniofacial development, posture, ect @RCNMidwives @KtJourno@BBCNews
@Hannah_torbay As a SLT have you considered looking at Myofunctional therapy for the Tongue Tie? There's a big group of UK based SLTs getting involved, it's wonderful! Also hope the pain is resolved!
