Once these Fellows take their works to completion and into implementation, they are awarded the prestigious Laulima Lanyard.
This series shines a spotlight on these distinguished alumni and the ways in which they are creating a more prosperous and secure Indo-Pacific region as "Fellows of Change".
In episode 6, we spoke with Cyril Cusi, an advisor to the President of the Philippines as a member of the National Security Council, three-time alumni of the Center, and a trailblazer as one of the first Fellows to ever complete a project.

Stronger together starts here.
Last week we welcomed Dr. Chad Walton, Interim Vice President for Research and Innovation at the University of Hawaiʻi System, to our Center.
Dr. Walton leads research and innovation across UH's 10 campuses, with a focus on STEM education, workforce development, and building community-industry connections that create real opportunity. Our discussion explored how we can deepen collaboration around educational pathways, capacity and workforce development networks, and the talent already rooted here in #Hawaii and across the #IndoPacific.
This region's strength has always come from its people from the relationships, skills, and shared purpose that connect communities across vast distances. Finding ways to educate, connect and empower with Dr. Walton and his team is how we turn that potential into practice.

The DKI APCSS Comprehensive Security Course (CSC) 26-2 continues to be a unique opportunity for the attending Fellows, with last week’s focus on the cyber, AI and tech aspects of modern security dynamics.
A highlight of which was an address and Q&A session with distinguished guest speaker VADM Heidi Berg, Commander of U.S. Fleet Cyber Command, Navy Space Command, and the U.S. Tenth Fleet. Multinational Armaments Resilience Seminar (MARS) 2026 – Module 1 Complete.
MARS Fellows, leaders from government and industry representing the U.S. and its key allies and partners across the Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic regions—recently spent the week confronting Defense Industrial Base (DIB) challenges and developing solutions together. Over six days, Fellows engaged directly with U.S. defense leaders, organic #DIB facilities, premier defense manufacturers, and emerging, innovative companies across Northern Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. The message was clear: strengthening industrial resilience, accelerating innovation, and expanding allied participation to increase capacity are critical to deterrence and regional security.
No nation can meet these challenges alone. Through MARS, DKI APCSS builds #partnerships, networks, and the shared understanding needed to strengthen #deterrence and address the Indo-Pacific’s toughest DIB challenges—together.
Next stop: Australia.

The time to act on Defense Industrial Base challenges is now! No nation can do it alone. On the first day of the Multinational Armaments Resilience Seminar (MARS) earlier this month, keynote speaker Hon. Michael Cadenazzi, Assistant Secretary of War for Industrial Base Policy ( @oaswibp ), brought focus and energy to the discussion, engaging over 30 leaders from across the Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic regions with real-world insights and experience. Through MARS, @DKIAPCSS is forging the partnerships needed to strengthen industrial resilience, enhance deterrence, and tackle the toughest DIB challenges—together.
