Anorthosis Famagusta FC unequivocally condemns @FCBarcelona intention to organize a football camp in the occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus, as well as its use of the non-existent term “Northern Cyprus.”

For a Club that was violently uprooted from Famagusta in 1974 and has been deprived of its city and natural home for 52 years due to the Turkish occupation, this is not a football issue. It is an issue of occupation, international law, and dignity.

“Més que un club” also means greater responsibility. FC Barcelona’s history and global stature are incompatible with actions that create an appearance of normality in the occupied territory of a European state.

And, of course, personal relationships and business interests end where the occupation of one’s homeland begins.

We call on President Joan Laporta and the FC Barcelona board to immediately cancel this camp, withdraw any reference to the non-existent term “Northern Cyprus,” and publicly apologize to the Republic of Cyprus and the refugee community for this unacceptable action.

At the same time, we call on the Government of the Republic of Cyprus and the Cyprus Football Association to take all appropriate action immediately. There can be no room for tolerance or inaction when it comes to occupation and national sovereignty.

There is no “Northern Cyprus.” There is occupied territory of the Republic of Cyprus.

Occupation does not become normal simply because the crest of a major football club is placed upon it.

FC Barcelona is preparing to run training camps for 10 days starting on 7 September 2026 at the so called “Near East University” built on Greek Cypriot land in a territory under illegal Turkish military occupation since 1974.

This is a direct violation of UN Security Council Resolutions 541 and 550 that declare the so-called “TRNC” null and void, calls on all states not to recognise any authority other than the Republic of Cyprus and urge the international community to refrain from any action that assists or legitimises the occupation.

By staging “official” activity there, FC Barcelona and by extension Spain, are lending sporting credibility to an illegal regime that still holds 37% of the island under occupation, with thousands of displaced Cypriots still denied return to their homes.
Sports should never be used as a vehicle for normalising occupation and ethnic cleansing.

FC Barcelona and @sanchezcastejon Government must cancel these camps without delay and make clear that no Spanish club will operate in the occupied areas of Cyprus.
Legality and principle must come before commercial convenience.

Ce samedi 29 août nos joueurs se déplaceront dans la ville de Chloraka pour y affronter Akritas. Ce club était en D1 l'an passé ainsi qu'en 2022/23. Il a fait l'ascenseur par deux fois. Ils font quoiqu'il en soit parti des favoris à la montée. La match de ce we sera un bon test !
