Why does the U.S. import and export crude oil and fuels?
In this week’s Energy Minute, API’s @T_Mason_H breaks down how crude quality and refinery design shape global energy flows — keeping energy moving where it’s needed while supporting strong, reliable U.S. supply.
API just launched our new “Some Things” campaign to show how American oil and gas delivers reliable, affordable energy — and why permitting reform is essential to build the infrastructure that powers our everyday lives.
What exactly is liquefied natural gas (LNG)? And how did the U.S. LNG industry become a global powerhouse?
In this Energy Minute, API's Rob Jennings explains how American ingenuity launched the U.S. LNG export industry and how it serves as a source of geopolitical strength and as a stabilizing force in global markets.
“In this country, we're blessed with a bounty of natural gas.”
API President & CEO @mj_sommers joined @scotthennen on @WOYMRadio to discuss how abundant U.S. natural gas will help meet rising energy demand and why federal permitting reform is so important.
How is today's global energy crisis different from previous supply disruptions, like the 1973 Arab oil embargo? One big difference is the scale of U.S. oil and gas production.
“No energy source on the planet is growing faster and is more important than natural gas.”
Today, @SecretaryWright visited @ExxonMobil’s Golden Pass LNG export terminal, which began exporting LNG in April 2026. As the world’s leading natural gas producer, the U.S. continues to keep domestic natural gas prices low while strengthening energy security both at home and abroad.
API President and CEO @mj_sommers joins @Varneyco and explains why California is especially exposed to disruption in the Strait of Hormuz. The state imports roughly 30% of their crude — compared to about 8% for the rest of the U.S. Add limited in-state refining capacity, and consumers feel the impact faster and harder.
Crude oil is a global commodity, meaning supply disruptions anywhere impact prices everywhere. API’s @T_Mason_H explains how instability in the Strait of Hormuz affects the global supply balance and influences motor gasoline prices in the U.S.
“Baseload power is going to continue to come from natural gas. So we have to find a way to move it from where it is to where it needs to be.”
API President & CEO @mj_sommers joined @theDChuddle to discuss why natural gas is essential for a reliable and resilient American energy grid
“… We are helping meet the demands of the world. And so I think the US energy industry is standing tall during this moment of need.” — @Chevron CEO Mike Wirth on @MorningsMaria
API appreciates @SenMcCormickPA’s leadership in advancing permitting reform. Modernizing NEPA, the Clean Water Act, and judicial review are essential to building the infrastructure needed to deliver affordable, reliable energy.
The American Petroleum Institute appointed an Associate Director of API Pennsylvania to advance energy policy and support the oil and natural gas industry in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. https://t.co/QlhjfYy89Z
The United States is the world’s largest producer of both oil and natural gas. Strong U.S. production supports our economy and makes us less dependent on foreign suppliers that may not share our interests.
Congress will vote this week on legislation to allow gas stations to sell gasoline with 15% ethanol year-round and reform the small refinery exemption program to provide more certainty and clarity for refineries. This commonsense reform gives consumers more options at the pump and helps ensure a more reliable fuel supply.
Advanced recycling is expanding the kinds of materials that can be recycled and the types of products that can be made. This kind of innovation supports the environment and grows our economy.
