Nobody ever talks about when to sell yet we don’t make money unless we sell.

Here are a few things I look for to consider selling:

-Weekly closes below key moving average, 10/20 typically
-Weekly close below prior breakout level or major base
-Weekly candle with a long upper wick at the “top” of an uptrend, see $HIMS 2/21 or $TSLA 12/16
-Failed breakout with zero follow through for multiple days
-Multiple high volume distribution days (high vol on red days)
-If I buy a stock and it gaps up 10% in short order, I take a piece off, say 20%ish and let the rest ride
-Lower highs forming after an initial strong move
-Relative weakness vs. sector or market
-Price ignoring good news

Sell rules are definitely important but having flexibility in your rules depending on the trade is also important.

I personally don’t have a hard “must sell” rule because each stock trades different but this is a list of things to look for, the more criteria are met the more likely I am to sell.
