On 17SEP23 at approx. 0320, the LCSO was given an anonymous tip that escaped inmate Jimbob Sweeney had taken refuge in an unoccupied vacation cabin. Deputies arrived on scene approximately 6 minutes later and made entry into the cabin. [1/4]

Detectives found signs of forced entry on the door of the cabin. Inside, they found several open, half-eaten cans of food, a dirty coffee cup, and an open closet with clothes on the floor. [3/4]

Liberty County’s most wanted criminal, Wally Grey, has been found dead in Springfield.
Deputies responded to a shots fired call and found Grey shot dead upon arrival. Detectives are currently working the scene.

After a recent meeting held by Sheriff Fields and other LCSO officials, it has been decided to reorganize the unmarked vehicles of the fleet.
The division now has 5 Tahoes and 4 Ram 1500s in operation, and 5 2011 Chargers and 3 Explorers in reserve.

This morning at 5:32 AM, Rick N' Johns (Dine-In Restaurant on Maple Street, Springfield) has been robbed by a caucasian female, appears to be in her twenties. A R&J Employee was on the scene, but was unharmed. Road detour expected UFN (1/3)

Detectives arrived on scene almost immediately after the call was made. They determined the robber entered the building via forced entree though the back door. A crowbar was found a few feet from the door, which is suspected to have been used to break the lock. (2/3)

This morning, the LCSO hosted its 6th Annual Coffee With A Cop event. Community turnout was wonderful as usual, with many citizens stopping by throughout the morning to chat, grab a drink, and sign Deputy Dingleberry’s get well card.

We hope to see everyone back next year!

UPDATE: High spirits today as Deputy Dingleberry was released from the hospital and will continue recovering at home. Deputies of the LCSO stopped by to greet her and accompany her to her house.

Deputies determined the wreck was caused by an intoxicated driver (Jimbob Sweeney, Jr., 43) driving erratically at a high rate of speed. With the road being dark and the bridge being narrow, there was little our deputy (Deborah Dingleberry, 26) could do to avoid the crash. [2/5]

Liberty County officials have approved the LCSO’s $7,000 purchase of a used Ford Explorer for patrol duties.
