Saved a life today! 🐑 came across a sheep stuck on its back.
This is called a "cast" sheep? It’s a major emergency, their heavy stomachs can crush their lungs, and they can die within hours if they aren't flipped over.
We grabbed its wool, and rolled it back on its feet. ❤️
@Keith197576 Sheep end up on their backs ("cast") when they lie down to rest or scratch an itch in a dip in the ground. Because of their heavy fleeces, short legs, and round bodies, their center of gravity shifts,
making it physically impossible for them to right themselves.
Part 1 151km later: Reflecting on Leg 4 of the Via Francigena 🥾
There is something transformative about walking an ancient pilgrimage route. This past week, we completed the fourth leg of the Via Francigena, an epic journey that historically connected Canterbury to Rome.🥾🥾
Part 3 The highlight, however, was the community. We shared miles and stories with fellow pilgrims from Australia, Germany, Italy, Austria, Holland, and America. It’s a powerful reminder that no matter where we come from, we’re all headed in the same direction. 🥾
Pt 2
We experienced everything the elements could throw at us, from glorious sunshine to torrential rain. The final day was the toughest: a relentless uphill trek to reach the Radicofani fortress. But as any pilgrim knows, the hardest climbs often lead to the best views. 🥾🥾
Part 2
Over 5 days of walking through the stunning Tuscan landscape, the reality of the trail often exceeded the map. While we planned for 132km, the trail had other ideas—we covered a total of 151.67km (over 94 miles)! 🥾
🥾 Next week: Part 4 of my Via Francigena pilgrimage.
82 miles through Tuscany from San Gimignano to Radicofani with my friend Karen.
Time to disconnect, reset, and test the knees. Wish me luck! 🍷⛪
