BJP MLA and folk artist Maithili Thakur has spoken with rare clarity on Swara Bhaskar’s remarks on Rani Padmavati and Jauhar. She called the statement inappropriate and misguided, and said something simple: if you lack knowledge of a subject, do not speak on it with such confidence. Study first.

Jauhar was an act of extraordinary courage - Rajput women choosing death over dishonour and captivity. Flattening that history into a modern talking point erases the context in which they lived.

Maithili did not hedge. She said the remarks were wrong. In a climate where some treat civilisational memory as raw material for controversy, her stand feels grounded and necessary.
