There are many good qualities of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, but I resent it because the fundamental premises - that The Odyssey is a serious text and 70MM IMAX has meaningful aesthetic benefits - are obvious falsehoods.

Partially because there's a myopia to a lot of wokeness that discourages minorities from looking outside their own perspective.
Partially because critics are hesitant to call out failings of this sort when done by people of backgrounds they aren't familiar with.

The reason diaspora literature and other woke trends are (validly) popular among elite tastemakers is that universal-human-experience-slop gets tired after a while because it is so universal and the same all the time. Injecting cultural specificity is a way to escape this.
