Over the lifetime of ARC WM we have hosted 394 #PPIE events and 99 training events, as discussed by Dr Magdalena Skrybant. Thank you to our 18 public contributors who were part of our core PPIE group.
Our Director, @rjlilford is kicking off our ARC West Midlands celebration event here in Birmingham, sharing the many impacts our researchers and public contributors have made in various aspects of healthcare.
Paul Bird discusses how NHS hospitals are increasingly using Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts to improve decision-making and healthcare outcomes. SPC charts help distinguish between normal variations in hospital data and significant changes that might need attention.
Next up, Prof Amy Grove looks at uptake of evidence from surgical trials. Large numbers of trials do not lead to practice change, which impacts many groups. Building trials with implementation in mind, not in isolation, can hopefully maximise their adoption.
Thanks to Prof Domenico Giacco who talked about work being carried out to improve both the mental and social health of young people through initiatives such as lunch-chat to help socialising with gamification/group activities.
Our first presentation is from Dr Ciara Harris and Prof Samuel Watson sharing their research into integrated care services, such as virtual wards / hospital-at-home. Feedback from patients, carers and staff has been positive, but with ideas for improvements.
