A Michigan delegation travelled to Calgary to sell separatists on software developed for Republicans to get out the vote – and how it could be used to wrench Alberta from Confederation.
For David Parker, an organizer for Alberta separation, the software was the path to victory – one that ultimately resulted in a massive privacy breach involving the sensitive personal data of nearly three million Albertans.
But Parker’s embrace of the Michigan delegation is evidence of a pattern: separatist factions in Alberta eager to engage the U.S. in their plans for secession, and American actors willing to assist, either privately or openly.
Through interviews with The Globe on both sides of the border, people involved in politics, the corporate sector and Alberta’s pursuit of separatism have described persistent efforts by figures in the U.S. administration and conservative political establishment to support groups seeking American expansionism and independence for Alberta.

☣️🇷🇺🚨| The FSB has been very active over the past 48 hours following a laboratory leak involving pneumonic plague.
On the night of October 1–2, a woman approximately 28 years old died at the Chelekhov Hospital (Irkutsk Oblast) due to pneumonic plague.
The young woman was a laboratory technician working in a Level 3 containment facility (with levels ranging from 1 to 4, where Level 4 involves handling the most dangerous pathogens).
Officially, the woman reportedly handled tubes containing the pathogen, broke one of them, and was then sent to the hospital.
The leak was serious enough that the FSB (internal intelligence service) reportedly dispatched its own ambulances and identified the victim’s close contacts.
Approximately 200 people were placed in quarantine.
A former Wagner fighter currently held in Ukrainian captivity has revealed details about brutal "training" sessions conducted by Russian mercenaries in Mali.
He disclosed this during an interview with journalist Dmytro Karpenko.
In 2023–2024, Russian instructors used captured Africans for tactical medicine exercises. Captives were inflicted with severe injuries, after which the mercenaries practiced stopping the bleeding.
According to the mercenary, explosives were tied to the leg of one captive and detonated, after which trainees practiced applying blood-stopping techniques on him.
Another captive was shot through an artery in the armpit area, while another was used for knife training, with Russians practicing striking the heart.
Yet another captive had his leg chopped off with an ax, after which the mercenaries practiced applying a tourniquet.
According to the Russian mercenary, all the captives died during these "training sessions."
He was stationed in Mali from September 2023 to April 2024. After returning to Russia in 2025, he signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and was subsequently assigned to the 14th Separate Special Forces Brigade of the GRU. He was captured during combat operations against Ukraine.
I also oppose Canada joining the EU and am wary of this associate thing before we know what it actually means.
But, this kind of reaction proves why "we just want our allies to be a bit stronger on their own two feet" or move away from China is wrong and not what the Admin is after.
They don't want western countries getting closer and taking more responsibility for themselves, they want to actually make these allies into vassals entirely dependent on them and therefore easy to fleece. Spend more on self defence but you have to buy our equipment. Stop fleecing us on trade but don't you dare trade more with other countries.
It's about weaponizing and turning once former partners into countries who just do whatever america says and buys and sells from/to them at whatever price and cost they demand.
A bunch of people have, randomly, liked this tweet today and it makes me happy that Norm continues to sell THE MANGRATE from the great beyond. (The mangrate beyond?)
Today is the 4th anniversary of Ukraine liberating Izium 🧵 (1/4)
A mass grave with victims of Russia’s 5-months-long occupation was quickly found in the forest outside the city:
- 215 women
- 194 men
- 5 children
- 22 Ukrainian soldiers
Out of 447 bodies, 30 had marks of severe torture. Several men had been castrated.
The mass grave in Izium shocked the world, bringing back memories to the mass graves with thousands of Polish military officers found in the Katyn Forest near Smolensk in 1943.
The discovery of the mass grave in Izium came 6 months after the discovery of the mass grave in Bucha following the Bucha Massacre in which 419 Ukrainian civilians were murdered.
The mass graves in Bucha and Izium stiffened Ukrainian resistance and raised fear about just how many Ukrainian civilians have been murdered in Russian-held areas that haven’t been liberated by Ukraine yet.
In the posts below, we will present pictures of some of the murdered Ukrainian civilians found in the Izium Forest ⬇️
Nothing to see here, just a state owned Chinese companies shipping vital kamikaze drone components to Russian defence contracts, marked as "nylon" and "polyester" in the customs documentation.
Iranian protesters must feel so abandoned by the United States.
In January, Trump warned Tehran the regime would “pay hell” and get “hit very hard” if it kept killing them.
Her case is now on appeal to Iran's Supreme Court — this is the moment to make noise.
Gentle reminder that if Trump had just left Canada alone, he would right now have a government in Ottawa voluntarily aligned on almost all of his administration's main priorities ... *particularly* when it comes to Chinese enmeshment. This is an unforced error for the ages.
