French painter Pierre Soulages (1919 - 2022) passed away on 26 October aged 102. We are saddened to bid farewell to the master of “outrenoir”, always meeting the challenge to shine light in unexpected places. We are also fortunate to have digitized his mesmerizing artworks.
This famille verte plate, an overglaze decorative technique, rhymes perfectly with nature. There are flowers and butterflies and a few scholarly rocks, echoing its wooden outer rim carved with lingzhi mushrooms.
