'Hotel Room,' (1931) is Edward Hopper's first in a long series of paintings set in different hotels. It was made a year after 'Sunday Morning,' the first of his paintings to be acquired by the Whitney Museum of American Art.
Painted in the late summer and autumn of 1962, John Nash's picture shows the backs of the old mill buildings at Boxted in north Essex. The mill itself was derelict for many years and is no longer standing.

'Drug Store.' (1927) Edward Hopper’s paintings have defined our idea of the modern urban world. In his early years, Hopper studied painting at the New York School of Art under Robert Henri; while transforming and modernizing his style over his lifetime, he embraced a central teaching of Henri: to paint the city and street life he knew best.
