Tough lesson I learned this week:
It does me, the world or my family ZERO BENEFIT to watch any news & absorb content on world events.
My heart & soul absolutely broke seeing war breakout & that heinous terrorist attack.
It put me in a mini funk tbh.
It cost me being my best self.
I can control my family, my attitude, affect my community & I plan on doing so this week while unplugging from the rest.
My brain simply isn’t designed to be able to absorb the problems of the world.
It’s not at all that I don’t care.
It’s just that when I am powerless to affect change & I see tragedies it only brings my soul & peace unrest, anxiety & hurt.
Instead I’ll be:
•Praying more.
•Muting words.
•Controlling what I can.
•Unplugging from any world events.
In my neighborhood, friend circle in real life & online EVERYONE is kind, loves others & roots for everyone. (If they aren’t online I block them :)
I pray one day the world is more like this & I’ll simply continue to pour into my little corner of the world & share it here.
“I have told you these things so that you will be whole & AT PEACE.
In this world you will be plagued with trouble, but you need NOT FEAR; I have triumphed over this corrupt world."
-John 16:33
My peace lies there.
Wishing you the best week ever too. ❤️
This is 23-year-old Bobbi Gibb in 1966, right after becoming the first woman to run the Boston marathon.
A few months earlier, Gibb had received a letter in the mail, disqualifying her for the marathon. The letter stated that women are "not physiologically able to run a marathon." The Amateur Athletics Union even went as far as prohibiting women from running more than 1.5 miles (2.4 km), and the organizers of the Boston Marathon did not want to "take the liability" of having a woman compete.
However, the rejection letter only emboldened her. On the day of the race, Gibb showed up wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt over a black swimsuit and her brother's Bermuda shorts. She hid behind a bush near the starting line and waited. When the starting gun fired, Gibb waited some more until about half the runners had passed. She then jumped in and blended into the pack.
However, it wasn't long before the men saw that she was a woman. To her surprise, she was not met with hostility but with encouragement and support. She removed her sweatshirt and finished the race in 3 hours and 21 minutes and 40 seconds, beating two-thirds of the runners.
Diana Chapman Walsh, who later went on to become the President of Wellesley College, recalled that day many years later: "That was my senior year at Wellesley. As I had done every spring since I arrived on campus, I went out to cheer the runners. But there was something different about that Marathon Day-like a spark down a wire, the word spread to all of us lining the route that a woman was running the course. For a while, the 'screech tunnel' fell silent. We scanned face after face in breathless anticipation until just ahead of her, through the excited crowd, a ripple of recognition shot through the lines, and we cheered as we never had before. We let out a roar that day, sensing that this woman had done more than just break the gender barrier in a famous race..."

I used to sneak into bed on Sunday mornings strung out, or drunk from partying all night Saturday. All I needed was to get a couple of hours of sleep, wake up and be father & husband of the year.
It took me some years to figure out I was only lying to myself. My health would deteriorate and I’ll regret it I knew it if I continued this path. My triplets were still very young, maybe under 5 still. I knew I had to make a change so they would never see that side of me.
I made the decision to stop that life several years ago. The constant celebration of my success didn’t have to be this way. I had to switch my mindset as to what success and how to celebrate it is. I turned to health and wellness of mind and body. I followed the steps of my Greek ancestors. I started working out. Building my endurance, lifting weights and pushing myself. I took that wild energy and used it in another way.
Today I stand before this mirror and I look at myself and I’m proud of what I achieved in my 40’s. Rather than waking up hungover, tired and pushing myself I am awake, refreshed and ready to tackle the day. “Sleep is for the dead” I used to say. Not realizing I’ll be the one dead sooner.
Today is Sunday morning; the sun is out, and I’m warming up my body for a Spartan race. Something I would have laughed at years ago.
I’m not laughing anymore. My body and mind agrees.
Choose a life where you body and mind thank you.
Illegal immigration needs to stop, but I’m super in favor of greatly expanding and simplifying legal immigration.
Anyone who proves themself to be hard-working, talented and honest should be allowed to become an American. Period.
every choice matters, good and bad, you thought you were blind, but you know inside what choices worked and which ones kinda did. your current situation along the route is based off of every decisionalchoice you acted upon or sat aside for. stagnation is the brewer of sourbitter.
