While obviously participation signals that the previous season was pretty dire, the League Cup Group Stages have been shown to give teams an edge going into the new campaign.
That's about the only notion of positivity I can muster from the whole thing.
With Shinnie departing, itโs the end of an era. Iโve published the full chapter dedicated to the captain from Red Redemption on Substack featuring insights from teammates and staff who worked with him. It's clear what the club meant to him.

For next season I will be judging signings after they have at least played a few games. If anything the last few years has taught us, it's not to get hyperbolic over signings. Some look great on paper and do not work out โ others don't and then do.
Fancy pretending this season never happened and whisking yourself back to May last year?
The first year anniversary of Aberdeen's 2025 Scottish Cup triumph is almost here and Red Redemption is currently on offer at 27% off! โฝ๏ธ๐ https://t.co/qXElgGLNcn
"When we need leaders, it wasn't there."
"I was extremely worried... when I saw the lack of core at the club."
"Unfortunately players have long contracts, some will come back... and when they do come back... they have to come up to the levels we expect."
At least he sees it.
From Aberdeen, to Athens, to Paisley, Edinburgh, Dundee ... pretty much anywhere really, this has been a total dirge of a season.
I cannot remember a single high whatsoever. We've perhaps traded in years of excitement for that day in May last year.
More upheaval to come...
The best thing you can say about today's game is that it means nothing - apart from some additional prize money, of course. For a while, it looked as if we were going to be dragged right into that relegation play-off spot, but thankfully we can at least try and 'enjoy' the game.
