Could use a little help: Looking for happy primary care docs with sustainable, fulfilling jobs. I'd love to find out a) that you exist and b) any structural ways your workplace supports this. #medtwitter#primarycare#physicianburnout @DrPoorman @PCareProgress
@AlexMMTri @DrPoorman @PCareProgress@PermanenteDocs I'm seeing a theme with Permanente docs... How specifically does the physician leadership support you? What makes the day-to-day, patient-to-patient life of a Permanente doc better?
@JRossfamilymed @DrPoorman @PCareProgress@SCFNuka That's great to hear. Why do you think that is? Flexible scheduling? Advanced team-based care? Some other special sauce?
@Farzad_MD Ask the physicians "how likely are you to recommend your clinic/organization to a colleague as a place to work?" and calculate an NPS score. Suddenly research on team-based care, work-flow simplification, etc., might be higher priority in c-suite discussions
@Farzad_MD How about physician/clinician NPS? What gets measured gets managed, and we (medical community, patients, taxpayers) could use a little focus on how to recruit and retain a strong #primarycare workforce.
@IlanaKrumm@somedocs And I think a lot of PGY2 anxiety comes from feeling like you have to have all the clinical answers. Focusing on process, especially early in the year, reminds you how much you know
We expect more out of surgeons than we did 50 years ago, but at least they are now equipped with better tools. We expect more of our PCPs as well, but we haven't innovated to improve (or even sustain) their key tool: time and relationships. #primarycare
The #healthcare system must place a much higher value on and invest in innovations that create time and realize the possibility of time for patient care https://t.co/s9E4LcJ9q7 @vmontori
@somedocs I have a mild allergy to social media, but actually really impressed by the community out there and what you can learn. Thanks for doing this! @ARistowMD
@KarenSibertMD @BeckersHR@dremilym @AlexAndersonMD @DrMStiegler@CSAHQ In residency I had a patient complain "I've been in the hospital 3 days and still haven't seen a doctor." I had to reintroduce my attending, two interns, and myself (all women) as his doctors. We had admitted him, rounded on him, and were all standing in the room.
@WCInvestor Also would help to know the breakdown of base salary vs. bonus. Maybe not as relevant in academia, but outside it's hard for new docs to tell what bonus metrics are achievable and whether remotely worth the risk of slight decrease in base
Remember, you're learning to lead a team not just learning to diagnose and treat. Notice how effective leaders support you and extened care teams to include patients, families, nurses, medical assistants, social workers, PT, OT, case managers, pharmacists. #TipsForNewDocs
I don't know how I hadn't heard of @danielleofri until just a few months ago, but she is my new hero. First, Perchance to Think, now this:
The Business of Health Care Depends on Exploiting Doctors and Nurses https://t.co/qNKnv9jdky
Hard to find time to check your smoke detector when you're racing from fire to fire. We need better teams and systems, for us and for our pts. #medtwitter#primarycare

This, a thousand times over. And what about when there is nowhere to punt -- when it is at the stage/level of multi-disciplinary complexity that requires a generalist? #primarycare#MedTwitter
"In the pressurized world of contemporary outpatient medicine, there is simply no time to think. With every patient, we doctors race to cover the bare minimum, sprinting in subsistence-level intellectual mode because that’s all that’s sustainable." https://t.co/WRCqgu1hYl
