It’s been 6 years since Algorand was born 🎂
After more than 3 billion transactions and 50 million blocks, we’re still up and running, with no downtime, if you didn’t know already.
We’ll be here tomorrow, the day after that and another 6 years after that too.
During the following days we'll close accounts here, on reddit and e.e., and stop providing liquidity for the token APF. Anyone wants to take over our project, or wants the .com or .org domain or the NFDomain we own, contact me on Telegram @Joan4P. Cheers!
Happy 2025 everyone. Seems algo is going a bit better. Poked the team members to check if anyone is up for a 2nd round, but no. Everyone is involved in other projects, so we're definitely closing shop. Deep and heartfelt thank you to everyone that helped us, and GLHF. Hope YGMI.
@CryptoTrainer2@AlgoFoundation Staci was questioned about this a while ago and she just said that the Foundation was based in Singapore and so... (and she shrugged).
Project suspended: as we announced on discord, right now our team is in bad shape and we're not going to be able to continue working on our project until things get better. Don't worry we're not touching liquidity or anything like that, but we'll take some time to study...
The viability of APF, which in the current status of the bear market and the accumulation of bad news in Algorand specifically, doesn't seem very clear. Thanks to all who have supported us and we'll let you know when we decide to come back! ❤️
Hey #algofam, here are my person thoughts on discussions around creating a fund to repay victims of the recent myalgo exploit.
I personally wish that every single victim will be made whole in time, but I wanted to bring up something that folks might not be considering.
Until there is a lot more regulatory clarity in the #blockchain space, it's important for ecosystems to protect themselves by removing all potential vectors of regulatory attack.
This is important, because if rushed emotional responses end up leaving #Algorand to regulatory attack in the future, then no one wins. If Algos were ever labeled an unregistered security in the future, it would no longer have any on or off-ramps in the USA. If people think the price is low now, wait until they see what can happen to price when there is a large sudden loss of demand.
Here is a list of potential options that I've seen people talk about, which I've labeled (in my opinion and experience gained from working with lawyers on stuff at @lofty_ai) from the most risky to the least risk.
1. Having the @AlgoFoundation create a fund to make victims whole. This is the most risky option, because it's very easy for regulators in the future to claim that $algo has an expectation of profit from the efforts of a centralized party. All it takes is for a few people to claim that they only bought algos because they saw the foundation stepping in to make victims of a hack whole, which made them feel that $algo was a safer investment relative to others.
2. Having large ecosystem VCs or companies create a fund to make victims whole. This is a safer option as long as the ecosystem VCs don't have direct ties to Algorand Inc or the foundation.
3. Having $algo owners vote in a governance proposal to redirect governance rewards to a fund to make victims whole. This is a significantly safer option, because it showcases the decentralization argument, which is that owners of $algo used their utility tokens to vote on redirecting governance rewards.
