"It's another example of how critical it is…to be thinking about preparedness around public health types of outbreaks…It is never a great time to let our guard down, so we need every available diagnostic tool…We need ongoing support of infrastructure from epidemiologists to anyone who's involved in these types of outbreaks.”
– Rodney E. Rohde, PhD, MS, SM(ASCP)CM SVCM,MBCM

🏥⛰️ For years, the pathology department at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) in Tanzania has been understaffed, making it difficult to get specialists to weigh in on certain kinds of cancer diagnoses.
💡🪢 That began to change in 2018, when a collaboration between ASCP, Duke University, and KCMC launched a telepathology consultation platform using whole slide imaging (WSI).
🥼 🔬 This allowed pathologists in Tanzania to digitize slides and securely share them with subspecialty experts in the United States and the Netherlands for remote review.
